Claims
- 1. A chemical indicator comprising:
an aurin moiety in a substrate to detect the presence of an oxidizing agent after exposure of less than two hours.
- 2. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the aurin moiety comprises a salt of aurintricarboxylic acid.
- 3. The chemical indicator of claim 2, wherein the salt of aurintricarboxylic acid is one of the ammonium salt and the sodium salt.
- 4. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the aurin moiety is adhered to a portion of the substrate.
- 5. The chemical indicator of claim 4, wherein the substrate is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of one of polystyrene, polyester, cellulose, nylon, polypropylene and polyethylene.
- 6. The chemical indicator of claim 5, wherein the substrate is one of a strip and a dot.
- 7. The chemical indicator of claim 4, wherein the aurin moiety is adhered to a first side of the substrate and an adhesive is adhered to a second side of the substrate.
- 8. The chemical indicator of claim 4, wherein the substrate is a tube and the aurin moiety is adhered to a portion of the inner wall of the tube.
- 9. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the aurin moiety is a solid.
- 10. The chemical indicator of claim 9, wherein the substrate comprises a gas permeable pouch and the aurin moiety is disposed within the pouch.
- 11. The chemical indicator of claim 9, wherein the substrate is a tube and the aurin moiety is disposed within a portion of the tube, and the chemical indicator further comprises at least one gas permeable stopper disposed in or on the tube, and the aurin moiety is disposed in the tube adjacent the stopper.
- 12. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the aurin moiety is a solution.
- 13. The chemical indicator of claim 12, wherein the substrate is a sealable and openable ampoule.
- 14. The chemical indicator of claim 13, further comprising a collection vessel and the ampoule is disposed within the collection vessel.
- 15. The chemical indicator of claim 14, wherein a portion of the ampoule is breakable and the aurin moiety is released from the breakable ampoule portion.
- 16. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the substrate is comprised of a polymer matrix and the aurin moiety is disposed within the polymer matrix.
- 17. The chemical indicator of claim 1, wherein the substrate comprises a transparent material.
- 18. The chemical indicator of claim 1 wherein exposure occurs at less than 90° C.

- 20. A chemical indicator comprising:
an aurin moiety in a substrate to detect the presence of an oxidizing agent after exposure at less than 60° C.
- 21. The chemical indicator of claim 20, wherein the aurin moiety comprises a salt of aurintricarboxylic acid.
- 22. The chemical indicator of claim 20 wherein an exposure time is less than one day.
- 23. The chemical indicator of claim 19 wherein the oxidizing agent comprises a germacide.
- 24. A system comprising:
an apparatus comprising a chamber adapted to retain one or more of articles; a receiver coupled to the chamber in a manner to introduce an oxidizing agent from the receiver into the chamber; and an indicator comprising an aurin moiety exposed to the chamber and comprising a portion that changes color upon exposure to an oxidizing agent for less than two hours.
- 25. The system of claim 2, wherein the indicator is located inside the chamber and is readily removable from the chamber.
- 26. The system of claim 2, wherein the indicator is coupled to the chamber and can be decoupled from the chamber.
- 27. The system of claim 2, wherein the indicator comprises a substrate comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polyester, cellulose, nylon, polypropylene and polyethylene and the aurin moiety is adhered to the substrate.
- 28. The system of claim 2, wherein the aurin moiety comprises a salt of aurintricarboxylic acid.
- 29. The system of claim 28, wherein the salt of aurintricarboxylic acid comprises one of the ammonium salt and the sodium salt.
- 30. The system of claim 2, further comprising an energy generator coupled to the chamber adapted to supply an energy within the chamber to generate a plasma.
- 31. The system of claim 24 wherein the color change occurs after exposure at less than 90° C.
