Claims
- 1. A chemically modified succinoglycan polysaccharide comprising a reduced content of pyruvic and succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan, wherein the unmodified succinoglycan is produced by culturing a microorganism of the Agrobacterium genus with an assimilable carbon source and an organic nitrogen source and mineral salts.
- 2. The modified, succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1, comprising at least 30% less pyruvic acid structural units and at least 50% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 3. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 2, comprising 30% to 80% less pyruvic acid structural units and 50% to 80% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 4. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1, wherein the microorganism of the Agrobacterium genus is Agrobacterium tumefaciens I-736, or recombinant or mutant thereof.
- 5. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1, comprising an acidic hydrolysate.
- 6. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1, comprising an enzymatic hydrolysate.
- 7. A powder comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1.
- 8. A suspending, thickening or stabilizing composition comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 1.
- 9. A chemically modified succinoglycan polysaccharide obtained by a process comprising (a) acidifying an aqueous solution of an unmodified succinoglycan having pyruvic and succinic acid structural units to a pH at least as low as 1.5, (b) aging and optionally stirring said acidified solution, whereby diminishing the viscosity thereof to a minimum threshold, for a period of time to effect the gelation thereof, and (c) recovering a gel thus formed, wherein the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide of the gel has a reduced content of pyruvic and succinic acid structural units relative to the unmodified succinoglycan, and the unmodified succinoglycan is produced via Agrobacterium fermentation.
- 10. The modified, succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 9, comprising at least 30% less pyruvic acid structural units and at least 50% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 11. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 9, comprising 30% to 80% less pyruvic acid structural units and 50% to 80% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 12. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 9, wherein the unmodified succinoglycan is produced via Agrobacterium tumefaciens I-736 fermentation, or via fermentation by recombinant or mutant thereof.
- 13. A powder comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 9.
- 14. A suspending, thickening or stabilizing composition comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 9.
- 15. A chemically modified succinoglycan polysaccharide comprising a reduced content of pyruvic and succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan, wherein the molar ratio of galactose:glucose:succinic acid:pyruvic acid in the unmodified succinoglycan is approximately 1:8.6:0.8:1.
- 16. The modified, succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15, comprising at least 30% less pyruvic acid structural units and at least 50% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 17. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 16, comprising 30% to 80% less pyruvic acid structural units and 50% to 80% less succinic acid structural units relative to unmodified succinoglycan used to produce said modified succinoglycan.
- 18. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15, wherein the unmodified succinoglycan is produced via Agrobacterium fermentation.
- 19. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 18, wherein the unmodified succinoglycan is produced via Agrobacterium tumefaciens I-736 fermentation, or via fermentation by recombinant or mutant thereof.
- 20. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15, comprising an acidic hydrolysate.
- 21. The modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15, comprising an enzymatic hydrolysate.
- 22. A powder comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15.
- 23. A suspending, thickening or stabilizing composition comprising the modified succinoglycan polysaccharide as defined by claim 15.
