Claims
- 1. A process for cooling a liquid, comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a source of coolant; (b) chilling the coolant during a time period of off-peak electrical usage; (c) storing the chilled coolant in a first insulated storage vessel; (d) flowing the chilled coolant from the first insulated storage vessel and a liquid to be cooled into a flat plate heat exchanger in order to cool the liquid at any time subsequent to step (c); and (e) transferring said cooled liquid to a second insulated storage vessel.
- 2. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the coolant is water.
- 3. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the coolant is a mixture of water and glycol.
- 4. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is a dairy product.
- 5. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 4, wherein the dairy product is milk.
- 6. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is beer.
- 7. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is juice.
- 8. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is noncarbonated soda water.
- 9. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is pre-made tea.
- 10. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, wherein the liquid to be cooled is coffee.
- 11. The process of cooling a liquid according to claim 1, further comprising the step of recycling the coolant.
- 12. A process for cooling milk, comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a source of water; (b) chilling the water during a time period of off-peak electrical usage; (c) storing the chilled water in a first insulated storage vessel; (d) flowing the chilled water from the first insulated storage vessel and a supply of milk from a milking parlor into a flat plate heat exchanger in order to cool the milk at any time subsequent to step (c); and (e) transferring the milk to a second insulated storage vessel.
- 13. A cooling system for cooling milk comprising:
(a) a cooling vessel for chilling a supply of water during a time period of off-peak electrical usage; (b) a first insulated storage vessel connected to the cooling vessel for storing the chilled water; (c) a flat plate heat exchanger; (d) a second insulated storage vessel; (e) a first conduit extending from said first insulated storage vessel to said flat plate heat exchanger and from said flat plate heat exchanger to a recycling station; and a second conduit extending from a milking parlor to said flat plate heat exchanger and from said flat plate heat exchanger to said second insulated storage vessel.
- 14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said cooling vessel is an air cooled water vessel.
- 15. The system according to claim 13, wherein said first insulated storage vessel is a non-stratified, potable water storage tank.
- 16. The system of claim 13, wherein said first and second conduits are each process piping for food preparation.
- 17. The system of claim 13, wherein said second insulated storage vessel is a bulk storage tank.
- 18. The system of claim 13, wherein said second insulated storage vessel is a refrigerated milk tanker truck.
- 19. The system of claim 13, wherein said recycling station comprises a cattle watering site.
- 20. The system of claim 14, wherein said recycling station comprises mistifiers in cattle barns.
