Abstract
A new Chrysanthemum plant named ‘CIDZ0089’ particularly distinguished by the medium size purple and white, daisy-type inflorescences, strong and uniform plant habit, and a flowering response time of 7.5 weeks.
Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum x morifolium.

Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0089’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum x morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0089’.

‘CIDZ0089’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium size purple and white, daisy-type inflorescences, strong and uniform plant habit, and a flowering response time of 7.5 weeks.

‘CIDZ0089’ originated from a hybridization made in September 2011 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. The female parent was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B7135’, having red and yellow bicolored daisy inflorescences with a more vigorous growth habit and smaller flower size when compared to ‘CIDZ0089’.

The male parent of ‘CIDZ0089’ was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B7685’, with white daisy-type inflorescences with larger flowers than ‘CIDZ0089’.

The seed was sown in February 2012 and the resulting plant were grown in pots in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. ‘CIDZ0089’ was selected as one flowering plants within the progeny of the stated cross in June 2012.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0089’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in October 2012 in Gilroy, Calif.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in November 2012 and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0089’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘CIDZ0089’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.

A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not been applied for. ‘CIDZ0089’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘CIDZ0089’ directly from the inventor.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawing shows typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0089’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.

The photographic drawing shows in FIG. 1 a close-up view of an inflorescence, and in FIG. 2 a flowering plant of the new variety.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Gilroy, Calif. in January 2017 on about 12 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots on Oct. 24, 2016. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Nov. 14, 2016 to induce flowering.

The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 were taken in Gilroy, Calif. in January 2017, and showing a plant from a trial, in which flowering had been induced by applying black cloth.

These plants were about 12 weeks of age. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots. The plants were pinched and moved to short days to induce flowering.
