This invention related to the cutting devices, generally and, particularly, to such devices adapted to cut a cigar which is inserted in a smoker's mouth.
In the prior art, a cigar cutter is a device designed to cut one end off of a cigar to prepare it for smoking. Cigars are a tightly rolled bundle of dried and fermented tobacco. Prior to smoking, the capped end of the cigar normally must be removed. In the prior art most cutters are designed to cut the capped end of the cigar. There are three basic type of cigar cutters guillotine cutters, punch cutters, and V-cutters. Guillotine cutters uses a quick straight cut causing both ends of the cigar to be exposed for smoking; the punch cutters cut a hole in the cap of the cigar to expose it for smoking; and the V cutters cut a wedge in the cap of the cigar to expose it for smoking. Additionally, provisions must be made within the design of cigar cutters to shield the cutting blade to prevent possible injury either before, during, or after use of the cutter.
In the prior art, several patents of cigar cutters were found that are specifically designed to make the guillotine cut. However, here, the present invention provides an improved cutting device which is adapted to cut a straight linear line across the body of upper body the cigar or cigarillo instead of the normal cut at the cap end to prepare a cigar for smoking.
One of the main objectives of the present invention is to provide a safe and efficient method of providing a straight cut upon the top of a cigar.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is provided a cigar cutter comprising a polyhedron shaped housing formed by secured opposing symmetrical portions with a centrally disposed orifice extending there through. A slot situated along the upper portion of the housing for receiving a lever therein. An inner compartment adapted to receive a spring and a section of the lever which cooperatively engage with a cutter blade and the spring. Cutting blade is engaged with the lower end of the lever wherein the cutting blade radiated into the orifice. In operation, as force is placed upon the lever while simultaneously pushing a cigar through the orifice, a linear cut is placed across the top of the cigar.
Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent to you from a careful reading of the detailed description provided herein below.

Each symmetrical portion of the housing (16) comprises an inner section (1) with opposing top outer peripheral edge (4) and lower outer peripheral edge (4′). Housing (16) further comprises top linear flat edge (3) adjacent to diagonal edge 2 and lower linear flat edge (3′) adjacent to lower diagonal edge (2′). Arrow (8) is engraved upon the external surface of the frontal wall of inner section (1) of cigar cutter housing (16) which defines the direction of insertion of a normal cigar into orifice (13). As depicted in
Lever (6) is formed from a top oblong shape portion (20) with a flat linear shape bottom portion (21) extending diagonally downward therefrom.
Disposed internally adjacent to slot (12) is compartment (15) having an internal cavity disposed within upper edge (3) at the juncture between the two symmetrical portions. The internal cavity of compartment (15) extends vertically downward and receives spring member (9) therein. Lever bottom portion (21) is pivotally attached to spring member (9) at the lower end of compartment (15).
The bottom portion (21) of the lever (6) is pivotally mounted within the lower end of the compartment (15) and is adapted to cooperatively engage with the lower end of spring member (9). At the lower end of the top portion (20) of lever (6) is a recess portion adapted to securely receive blade (7) therein.
