Claims
- 1. A cigarette comprising a paper wrapped tobacco rod having a tip portion, and an additive at the tip portion for reducing the contribution of an aldehyde when the cigarette is lighted and initially puffed.
- 2. A cigarette as in claim 1 wherein the aldehyde comprises formaldehyde.
- 3. A cigarette as claimed in claim 1 wherein the additive is ammonium bicarbonate.
- 4. A cigarette as in claim 1 wherein the additive is potassium bicarbonate.
- 5. A cigarette as in claim 1 wherein the additive is potassium phosphate.
- 6. A cigarette as in claim I wherein the additive is sodium chloride.
- 7. A cigarette comprising a paper wrapped tobacco rod having a tip portion, and wherein the tip portion comprises Burley tobacco and tobacco having high ammonia levels in the smoke, like Bright exp with NH3, reconstituted tobaccos with ammonium salts for example for reducing the contribution of formaldehyde when the cigarette is lighted and initially puffed.
- 8. A cigarette comprising a paper wrapped tobacco rod having a tip portion, and the paper at the tip portion having a lower permeability for reducing the contribution of formaldehyde when the cigarette is lighted and initially puffed.
- 9. A cigarette as in claim 8 including perforations at the tip portion for reducing the porosity at that location, and a circularly shaped piece of reconstituted tobacco blend, carbon, or metal disc placed at the tip to increase resistance to draw.
- 10. A process of producing a cigarette comprising the steps of wrapping a tobacco rod with paper, determining at which location along the tobacco rod where a preselected smoke constituent is maximized, and applying an inhibitor/attenuator of the target smoke constituent at the determined rod location, said applying step limited to said determined rod location.
- 11. A process as claimed in claim 10 wherein the target smoke constituent is formaldehyde.
- 12. A process as in claim 10 wherein the inhibitor/attenuator is ammonium bicarbonate.
- 13. A cigarette with a carbon-based and/or metallic disc at the tip end thereof.
- 14. A cigarette having a tobacco rod wrapped in paper, the tobacco rod having a location along its length where a smoke constituent is maximized, an inhibitor/attenuator of the smoke constituent at that location, and wherein the remainder of the cigarette is substantially free of said inhibitor/attenuator.
- 15. A cigarette as in claim 14 wherein said smoke constituent is an aldehyde.
- 16. A cigarette as in claim 15 wherein the smoke constituent is formaldehyde.
