Claims
- 1. A sensor having a resistance adjusting circuit to adjust the sensitivity of said sensor, said resistance adjusting circuit comprising:
- resistance means including a plurality of resistances,
- switching means coupled to said resistance means for selectively connecting one or more of said plurality of resistances to produce a combined resistance,
- patterning means coupled to said switching means and responsive to a first signal for controlling said switching means to selectively and sequentially connect said plurality of resistances in accordance with a predetermined pattern to adjust the sensitivity of said sensor, and
- holding means responsive to a second signal for holding said patterning means and fixing the connection of said plurality of resistances so that said combined resistance is permanently fixed, said second signal being produced when said sensor senses a particular condition.
- 2. An apparatus for sensing a particular condition, said apparatus comprising:
- a. sensing means,
- b. first circuit means coupled to said sensing means for generating first and second signals,
- c. second circuit means responsive to the signals generated by said first circuit means for adjusting the sensitivity of said sensor, said second circuit means comprising:
- (i) resistance means including a plurality of resistances,
- (ii) switching means coupled to said resistance means for selectively and sequentially connecting one or more of said plurality of resistances to produce a combined resistance,
- (iii) patterning means, coupled to said switching means and responsive to said first signal generated by said first circuit means, for controlling said switching means to selectively connect said plurality of resistances in accordance with a predetermined pattern for adjusting the sensitivity of said sensor, and
- (iv) holding means, responsive to said second signal generated by said first circuit means, for holding said patterning means and fixing the connection of said plurality of resistances so that said combined resistance is permanently fixed.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said first circuit means comprises a constant voltage regulation circuit, a comparator, and a switching circuit.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said sensing means is a detection coil for detecting the proximity of an object.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 2, in which said switching means includes a pluraltiy of switching elements which respectively correspond to said plurality of resistances.
- 6. An apparatus for sensing a particular condition, said apparatus comprising:
- a. sensing means,
- b. first circuit means coupled to said sensing means for generating first and second signals,
- c. second circuit means responsive to the signals generated by said first circuit means for adjusting the sensitivity of said sensor, said second circuit means comprising:
- (i) resistance means including a plurality of resistances,
- (ii) switching means coupled to said resistance means for selectively and sequentially connecting one or more of said plurality of resistances to produce a combined resistance,
- (iii) patterning means, coupled to said switching means and responsive to said first signal generated by said first circuit means, for controlling said switching means to selectively connect said plurality of resistances in accordance with a predetermined pattern for adjusting the sensitivity of said sensor, and
- (iv) holding means, responsive to said second signal generated by said first circuit means, for holding said patterning means and fixing the connection of said plurality of resistances so that said combined resistance is permanently fixed,
- wherein said switching means includes a plurality of switching elements, which respectively correspond to said plurality of resistances, and a plurality of fuses respectively connected to said plurality of switching elements, said fuses are adapted to be selectively fused off upon the application of said second signal to said holding means.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said second signal is generated when said sensing means detects a particular condition.
- 8. A method of adjusting the sensitivity of a sensor, said sensor having a resistance means including a plurality of resistances, said method comprising the steps of:
- selectively and sequentially connecting one or more of said plurality of resistances in accordance with a predetermined pattern to form a combined resistance,
- holding said selective connection of said plurality of resistances when said sensor senses a particular condition, and
- fixing said plurality of resistances so that said combined resistance is permanently fixed.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 8, further comprising the steps of:
- generating a first signal to activate the selective connection of said plurality of resistances, and
- generating a second signal, when said sensor senses a particular condition, to initiate the holding of said selective connection of said plurality of resistances and fixing of said plurality of resistances to yield said combined resistances.
