Claims
- 1. A circuit test light comprising:
a light source, a light-transmitting housing encompassing the light source and extending substantially therebeyond, two test leads extending from the housing and each having a proximal end connected to the light source and a distal end, and connector assemblies respectively coupled to the distal ends of the test leads, whereby the light source is energizable by a voltage or current across the connector assemblies to illuminate the housing so that it is visible from multiple directions at locations remote from the connector assemblies.
- 2. The test light of claim 1, wherein the housing defines a flat, stable base on which the housing can be rested.
- 3. The test light of claim 2, wherein the housing is in the form of a reel having a substantially cylindrical hub integral at its ends with enlarged circular end plates, the end plates cooperating with the hub to define a channel for accommodating the test leads when wound around the hub.
- 4. The test light of claim 3, and further comprising a closure for retaining the test leads in the reel channel.
- 5. The test light of claim 4, wherein the closure includes a strap spanning the end plates.
- 6. The test light of claim 1, wherein the housing is translucent.
- 7. The test light of claim 1, wherein at least one of the connector assemblies includes a plurality of adapter connectors selectively connectable to the associated test lead for connection to different types of test terminals.
- 8. A circuit test light comprising:
light-generating means, housing means formed of a light-transmitting material and encompassing the light-generating means and extending substantially therebeyond, and connection means connected to the light-generating means and extending from the housing means to define two terminals so that the light-generating means is energizable by a voltage or current across the terminals to illuminate the housing means so that it is visible from multiple directions at locations remote from the terminals.
- 9. The test light of claim 8, wherein the housing is substantially reel-shaped.
- 10. The test light of claim 9, wherein the housing includes a substantially cylindrical hub integral at its opposite ends with enlarged circular end plates cooperating with the hub to define a channel to accommodate the test leads when wound around the hub.
- 11. The test light of claim 10, wherein the light-generating means is disposed in the hub.
- 12. The test light of claim 10, and further comprising a closure for spanning the end plates to retain the connection means in the channel.
- 13. The test light of claim 8, wherein the housing means is translucent.
- 14. The test light of claim 8, wherein the connection means includes a plurality of adapter connectors for respectively connecting to different types of test terminals.
- 15. A method of detecting a voltage between two circuit points comprising:
connecting first ends of two test leads respectively to the points, connecting second ends of the test leads to a light source for energizing the light source, and disposing the light source in a light-transmitting housing which extends substantially beyond the light source for illuminating the housing so that it is viewable from multiple directions at locations remote from the circuit points.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the connecting includes connecting a first end of at least one of the test leads via one of a plurality of different adapter connectors.
- 17. The method of claim 15, wherein the housing is provided with a stable base to permit stable positioning thereof.
- 18. The method of claim 15, and further comprising winding the test leads about a portion of the housing when not in use.
- 19. The method of claim 18, and further comprising retaining the test leads on the housing when not in use.
- 20. A circuit test light comprising:
a housing, a light source disposed within the housing, two test leads extending from the housing and each having a proximal end connected to the light source and a distal end, and connector assemblies respectively coupled to the distal ends of the test leads, at least one of the connector assemblies including a base connector connected to the associated lead and a plurality of adapter connectors selectively connectable to the base connector for providing connection, respectively, to different types of terminals to be tested.
- 21. The test light of claim 20, wherein the base connector is a female connector.
- 22. The test light of claim 20, wherein at least one of the adapter connectors is a multi-terminal connector.
