- 7. The method of claim 6 further including the step of displaying the plurality of stored digital images on a display screen of the separate computer along with an icon indicating the favorite image.
- 8. The method of claim 7 further including the step of enabling the user to identify, from the separate computer, additional stored digital images as favorite images, and to update the database to indicate that the additional images are favorite images.
- 9. The method of claim 7 further including the step of providing a display mode to display only the favorite images on the display screen of the separate computer.
- 10. The method of claim 7 further including the step of using the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image to determine the order or size of the displayed images.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of identifying one of the plurality of digital images as a favorite image includes providing a user control to enable a user to indicate favorite images.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein, responsive to the user control, displaying an icon indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image.
- 13. The method of claim 1 further including the step of grouping the stored digital images into a plurality of image groups.
- 14. The method of claim 4 further including the step of grouping the stored digital images into a plurality of image groups, and wherein the control file includes data to identify the plurality of image groups.
- 15. The method of claim 14 further including the step of transferring the images in the plurality of image groups and the control file to a separate computer.
- 16. The method of claim 15 further including the step of storing data indicating that the identified digital images are favorite images and the data identifying the plurality of image groups in a database on the separate computer.
- 17. The method of claim 15 wherein the database on the separate computer encodes the data using XML.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein the control file does not encode the data using XML.
- 19. The method of claim 1 wherein the plurality of digital images are stored as JPEG files using the DCF directory structure, and the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite digital image is stored in a file separate from the identified digital image file.
- 20. The method of claim 1 wherein the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite digital image classifies the favorite image into a range of levels.
- 21. The method of claim 20 wherein the range of levels includes levels indicating a most favorite image, a favorite image, a normal image, and a disliked image.
- 22. The method of claim 1 further including the step of storing a user identifier along with the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image.
- 23. The method of claim 1 further including the step of storing an identification number used to identify the digital camera, along with the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image.
- 24. A method for classifying digital images using a handheld imaging device, comprising the steps of:
a) capturing and storing a plurality of digital images in corresponding digital image files in the imaging device; b) viewing the digital images on a display of the imaging device; c) identifying one of the plurality of stored digital images as a favorite image; and d) storing data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite digital image.
- 25. A digital camera for capturing and classifying digital images, comprising:
a) an image sensor for capturing a plurality of digital images; b) a memory for storing the plurality of digital images in corresponding digital image files; c) a display for displaying the plurality of stored digital images; d) a user interface for identifying one of the plurality of stored digital images as a favorite image; and c) a processor for providing data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image, wherein the data is stored in the memory.
- 26. The digital camera of claim 25 wherein the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image is stored in the same digital image file as the identified digital image.
- 27. The digital camera of claim 25 wherein the data indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite digital image is stored in a control file separate from the digital image file containing the favorite image.
- 28. The digital camera of claim 27 wherein the data stored in the memory is a control file identifying a plurality of favorite images.
- 29. The digital camera of claim 25 wherein, responsive to the user interface, an icon is displayed on the display indicating that the identified digital image is a favorite image.
