Claims
- 1. A dispensing valve for dispensing a granular material from a container to an application means, the dispensing valve comprising:
- a housing having a passage and a first valve seat;
- a valve member slidably positioned in the housing, the valve member having an edge that engages the first valve seat for sealing the dispensing valve by blocking the passage of the housing;
- means for biassing the valve member into a closed position;
- a camming groove for coupling the dispensing valve to a receiving valve by driving the dispensing valve towards a receiving valve wherein the camming groove is provided with a neutral portion for delaying driving the dispensing valve towards a receiving valve; and
- means for engaging a receiving valve on an application means to automatically open the receiving valve when the dispensing valve is coupled to the receiving valve and automatically closing the receiving valve when the dispensing valve is uncoupled from the receiving valve, the application means being used for applying the granular material.
- 2. The dispensing valve as defined by claim 1 wherein the means for biassing comprises a spring that is positioned between the housing and the valve member.
- 3. The dispensing valve as defined by claim 2 wherein the valve member is provided with a guide post and the housing with a cooperating guide aperture for guiding the movement of the valve member.
- 4. The dispensing valve as defined by claim 2 wherein the valve member is provided with at least one locking projection for cooperating with the receiving valve for preventing rotation of the valve member relative to the housing when the dispensing valve is being rotated when coupled to and uncoupled from a receiving valve to accomplish wiping of the valve seat.
- 5. The dispensing valve as defined by claim 1 further comprising an inner cup on which is located the camming groove and which also defines the means for automatically opening.
- 6. A dispensing valve comprising:
- a housing attachable to a dispensing container, and having a passage and a first valve seat;
- a first valve member slidably mounted in said housing and having an edge which sealingly engages said first valve seal in said housing in a closed position to block the passage;
- means for biassing said first valve member into the closed position;
- means for rotatably coupling the housing to a first part of a receiving valve; and
- means for engaging a second, movable part of the receiving valve to automatically open the receiving valve as the dispensing valve is coupled to the receiving valve and enabling automatic closure of the receiving valve when the dispensing valve is uncoupled from the receiving valve, said first valve member being driven both axially and rotationally relative to said housing during coupling and uncoupling.
- 7. The dispensing valve of claim 6 wherein said means for rotatably coupling is mounted to said housing and includes camming means for interlocking with corresponding mating means of the receiving valve to drive the dispensing valve toward the receiving valve.
- 8. The dispensing valve of claim 7 wherein said camming means includes a neutral portion for which the receiving valve is open and the first valve member is in the closed position, and an opening portion for which both the receiving valve and the first valve member are driven open.
- 9. The dispensing valve of claim 8 wherein means for rotatably coupling include at least one wall and said camming means includes a plurality of grooves spaced about said wall.
- 10. The dispensing valve of claim 6 wherein said means for biassing includes a spring.
- 11. A dispensing valve comprising:
- a housing attachable to a dispensing container, and having a passage and a first valve seat;
- a first valve member slidably mounted in said housing and having an edge which sealingly engages said first valve seat in said housing in a closed position to block the passage, said first valve member being capable of both axial and rotational movement relative to said housing;
- means for biassing said first valve member into the closed position;
- means for rotatably coupling the housing to a first part of a receiving valve; and
- means for engaging a second, movable part of the receiving valve to automatically open the receiving valve as the dispensing valve is coupled to the receiving valve and enabling automatic closure of the receiving valve when the dispensing valve is uncoupled from the receiving valve, said first valve member including at least one locking projection for engaging a cooperating part of the receiving valve to generate rotation of said first valve member relative to said housing when said dispensing valve is rotated when coupled to and uncoupled from the receiving valve.
