Claims
- 1. In the assembly of a slam-shut valve having a housing with a reset assembly mounted therein and including a releasably-held lever pivotally mounted on a reset shaft and carrying a valve element for closing a flow passage in said valve upon release of the lever, the assembly comprising:
- (a) a chamber bounded by walls and formed in the housing above the flow passage, and adapted to receive the reset shaft and lever therein,
- (b) the lever having a body portion with a slot formed adjacent one end of the lever,
- (c) a spring having one end connected to the lever, and the other end releasably held within the slot, and
- (d) the releasable end of the spring to remain in the slot until after connection is made between the lever and reset shaft, and then being removed to engage one wall of the chamber to bias the lever toward the closed position.
- 2. The combination claimed in claim 1 wherein:
- (a) the closing spring is coiled and held captive on the underside of the body portion of the lever by its upwardly extending ends, one being connected to the lever and the other being releasably held within the slot,
- (b) the closing spring is connected to the lever prior to the lever being connected to the reset shaft, and
- (c) the reset shaft extending through the coil of the spring so as to interconnect the lever, the spring, and the shaft.
- 3. The combination claimed in claim 2 wherein:
- (a) the chamber having an open top to permit the reset to enclose the top of the chamber subsequent to installation of the reset assembly therein.
- 4. The combination claimed in claim 3 wherein:
- (a) the releasable slot is substantially "L"-shaped with one leg extending inwardly from the end of the lever, and the other leg extending parallel to the end from its intersection with said first leg, and p1 (b) the parallel leg has the side adjacent the end arcuately shaped so as to receive and hold the releasable leg of the spring until it is mechanically removed from the slot.
