Claims
- 1. A profile strip co-extrusion having an inner surface and an outer surface and comprising:
- a closure element made of a first material, said closure element having a base, said base having an inner surface and an outer surface;
- one lateral web extending outwardly from said base on each side of said closure element, said lateral webs each having an inner surface and an outer surface; and
- an adhesive layer made of a second material, said second material being different than said first material and compatable for co-extrusion with said lateral webs, said adhesive layer co-extruded with said outer surface of each of said lateral webs but not with the base, said adhesive layer being sub-divided into at least two adhesive ribs on each of said lateral webs, with each two of said adhesive ribs adjacent to each other being separated by an adhesive-free area on said lateral webs, wherein said lateral webs have a substantially different coefficient of contraction than said adhesive layer and wherein the width and the height of said adhesive ribs and the width of said adhesive-free area are selected such that said lateral webs of said co-extrusion are substantially free of deformation after said co-extrusion is cooled and wherein the interfaces between said co-extruded lateral webs and adhesive ribs have no intermediate layer therebetween.
- 2. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein said lateral webs are made of said first material.
- 3. A profile strip of claim 1 which further comprises a peel seal material on said inner surface of said profile strip.
- 4. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein the first material comprises polyethylene.
- 5. A profile strip of claim 4 wherein the first material comprises low density polyethylene.
- 6. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein the first material comprises polyvinyl chloride.
- 7. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein the second material comprises a heat-activated adhesive.
- 8. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein the second material comprises a heat- and pressure-activated adhesive.
- 9. A profile strip of claim 8 wherein the second material is ethylene vinyl acetate, ethylene acrylic acid, a polymer rubber resin blend or ethylene-methyl acrylate.
- 10. A profile strip of claim 1 wherein each of said adhesive ribs is parallel to said closure element.
- 11. A profile strip co-extrusion having an inner surface and an outer surface and comprising:
- a closure element made of a first material, said closure element having a base, said base having an inner surface and an outer surface;
- one lateral web extending outwardly from said base on each side of said closure element, said lateral webs each having an inner surface and an outer surface; and
- an adhesive layer comprising a co-extrusion of a second material and a third material, said second material being different than said first material and not compatible for co-extrusion with said lateral webs, said third material being different from said first material and compatible for co-extrusion with said lateral webs and said third material being different from said second material and compatible for co-extrusion with said second material such that said third material comprises a tie layer between said lateral webs and said second material, said adhesive layer co-extruded with said outer surface of each of said lateral webs but not with the base, said adhesive layer being sub-divided into at least two adhesive ribs on each of said lateral webs, with each two of said adhesive ribs adjacent to each other being separated by an adhesive-free area on said lateral webs, wherein said lateral webs have a substantially different coefficient of contraction than said adhesive layer and wherein the width and the height of said adhesive ribs and the width of said adhesive-free area are selected such that said lateral webs of said co-extrusion are substantially free of deformation after said co-extrusion is cooled.
