Claims
- 1. An article suitable for providing a lithographic plate comprising an aluminum substrate, a hydrophilic coating overlying said aluminum substrate, said coating being provided by a hydrophilic particulate material bound to said aluminum substrate by an in situ formed aluminum hydroxyoxide, and an oleophilic layer overlying said hydrophilic coating, wherein said particulate material has an average particle size of about 0.05 to 3000 microns, a melting point above about 150.degree.C., and a water solubility of less than about 0.1 part per 100 parts of water at 100.degree.C.
- 2. The article of claim 1 wherein said oleophilic layer is provided by a polymeric material.
- 3. The article of claim 1 wherein a photosensitive layer is disposed between said hydrophilic layer and said oleophilic layer, said photosensitive layer having one solubility in relation to a developing medium before exposure to actinic radiation and another solubility in relation to said developing medium after exposure to actinic radiation, whereby said oleophilic layer can be selectively removed by said developing medium to provide an exposed pattern of oleophilic layer and hydrophilic layer conforming to the pattern to be reproduced.
