Claims
- 1. A coating for a surface comprising:
at least a first coating, a second coating, and a third coating, wherein the first coating is in contact with at least a portion of the surface and the second coating is disposed between the first and the third coating, the first and third coatings comprising polyethyleneimine and the second coating comprising a high molecular weight negatively charged polymer.
- 2. The coating of claim 1, wherein the polyethyleneimine comprises polyethyleneimine derivatized by butylation.
- 3. The coating of claim 1, wherein the high molecular weight negatively charged polymer is polyacrylic acid with a molecular weight of at least 3,000,000.
- 4. The coating of claim 1, wherein the second coating is a coating made from a 0.06% w/v solution of polyacrylic acid in aqueous solution.
- 5. A method for coating a surface comprising:
coating at least a portion of the surface with a first coating of a positively charged polymer; coating at least a portion of the first coating with a second coating that contacts the first coating, wherein the second coating includes a high molecular weight negatively charged polymer; and coating at least a portion of the second coating with a third coating of a positively charged polymer that contacts the second coating.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the first and third coatings comprise polyethyleneimine.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein the high molecular weight negatively charged polymer comprises polyacrylic acid having a molecular weight of at least 3,000,000.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the second coating is a coating made from a 0.06% w/v solution of polyacrylic acid in aqueous solution.
- 9. A coated surface for immobilizing negatively charged anti-coagulating agents from a blood fluid, the coated surface comprising;
a surface, and at least a first layer, a second coating, and a third coating, wherein the first layer is chosen from the group consisting of a positively charged polymer coating and positively charged functional groups; the second coating comprises a negatively charged high molecular weight polymer disposed between the first layer and the third coating; and the third coating comprising polyethyleneimine.
- 10. The surface of claim 9, wherein the polyethyleneimine is butylated.
- 11. The surface of claim 9, wherein the negatively charged high molecular weight polymer is polyacrylic acid with a molecular weight of at least 3,000,000.
- 12. The surface of claim 9, wherein the second coating is a coating made from a 0.06% w/v solution of polyacrylic acid in aqueous solution.
- 13. The surface of claim 9, wherein the surface is a porous matrix.
- 14. The surface of claim 13, wherein the surface is a plurality of glass beads.
- 15. The surface of claim 9, wherein the first layer and the surface are identical and the first layer comprises positively charged functional groups.
