Claims
- 1. A composition comprising the reaction product of
- A. a compound selected from the group consisting of: ##STR17## where, in either structure,
- X is hydrogen, an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms or phenyl;
- Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 can be the same or different and are hydrogen, --CH.sub.2 OH or an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms; ##STR18## where A is hydrogen or --COOH for the diester and a valence bond for the triester;
- D.sub.1 is hydrogen or --CH.sub.2 OH;
- D.sub.2 is hydrogen or --OH provided that one and only one of D.sub.1 or D.sub.2 must be --OH or --CH.sub.2 OH; ##STR19## R is an alkyl radical of 4-18 carbon atoms, or a singly, doubly or triply unsaturated hydrocarbon radical of 17 carbon atoms;
- a and b and 1 or 2, provided that a + b is 2 or 3;
- c is 2 or 3;
- n is 0 or 1;
- m is 1-5;
- p is 0 or 1; and
- t is 0 or 1;
- and
- B. a polyfunctional isocyanate.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 where, in formula (1),
- X is hydrogen;
- a and b are 1;
- n is 0,
- m is 1,
- Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are hydrogen;
- D.sub.1 is hydrogen;
- D.sub.2 is --OH;
- p is 1; ##STR20## where R.sub.1 is --CH.sub.3 and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are lower alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being 7-11;
- and ##STR21##
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein, in formula (1),
- X is hydrogen;
- a and b are 1;
- n is 0;
- m is 1;
- Y.sub.1 is --CH.sub.3 ;
- Y.sub.2 is hydrogen;
- D.sub.1 is hydrogen;
- D.sub.2 is --OH;
- p is 1; ##STR22## where R.sub.1 is --CH.sub.3 and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are lower alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being 7-11;
- and ##STR23##
- 4. The composition of claim 1 where, in formula (1),
- X is hydrogen;
- n is 0;
- m is 2;
- Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are (1) hydrogen and --OH and (2) hydrogen and hydrogen;
- D.sub.1 is hydrogen;
- D.sub.2 is --OH;
- p is 1; ##STR24## t is 1; a and b are 1; ##STR25## where R.sub.1 is --CH.sub.3 and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are lower alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being 7-11;
- and ##STR26##
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein a and b are 1 or 2, provided that a + b is 3, c is 3, and ##STR27##
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is ##STR28##
- 7. The composition of claim 2 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is ##STR29##
- 8. The composition of claim 3 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is ##STR30##
- 9. The composition of claim 4 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is ##STR31##
- 10. The composition of claim 5 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is ##STR32##
- 11. An article coated with a cured film of the composition of claim 1.
- 12. An article coated with a cured film of the composition of claim 2.
- 13. An article coated with a cured film of the composition of claim 3.
- 14. An article coated with a cured film of the composition of claim 4.
- 15. An article coated with a cured film of the composition of claim 5.
- 16. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyfunctional isocyanate is a blocked isocyanate.
- 17. A curable composition comprising
- A. a compound selected from the group consisting of: ##STR33## where, in either structure, X is hydrogen, an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms or phenyl;
- Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 can be the same or different and are hydrogen, --CH.sub.2 OH or an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms; ##STR34## where A is hydrogen or --COOH for the diester and a valence bond for the triester;
- D.sub.1 is hydrogen or --CH.sub.2 OH;
- D.sub.2 is hydrogen or --OH provided that one and only one of D.sub.1 or D.sub.2 must be --OH or --CH.sub.2 OH; ##STR35## R is an alkyl radical of 4-18 carbon atoms, or a singly, doubly or triply unsaturated hydrocarbon radical of 17 carbon atoms;
- a and b are 1 or 2, provided that a + b is 2 or 3;
- c is 2 or 3;
- n is 0 or 1;
- m is 1-5;
- p is 0 or 1; and
- t is 0 or 1;
- and
- B. a polyfunctional isocyanate, brought into form for use by mixing (A) with (B).
