Claims
- 1. A coating composition for application to a soft surface, said coating composition comprising a suitable carrier medium and a plurality of nanoparticles in said carrier medium, said nanoparticles comprising a first group of nanoparticles wherein said first group of nanoparticles comprises at least one type of nanoparticle material other than 2:1 layered silicates.
- 2. A coating composition for application to a soft surface, said coating composition comprising a suitable carrier medium and a plurality of nanoparticles in said carrier medium, wherein said nanoparticles have an aspect ratio of less than about 10 and a particle size between greater than 0 and less than or equal to about 750 nanometers.
- 3. A coating composition according to claims 1 or 2 wherein said nanoparticles are non-photoactive.
- 4. A coating composition according to claim 3 wherein said nanoparticles comprise one or more of the following materials: boebmite alumina, silicalite, latex, alumina oxide, and zirconia.
- 5. A coating composition according to claims 1 or 2 wherein said nanoparticles are photoactive.
- 6. The coating composition of claim 5 wherein said nanoparticles comprise at least one of the following materials: TiO2 and zinc oxide.
- 7. A coating composition according to claim 1 further comprising at least some nanoparticles comprising 2:1 layered silicates.
- 8. A method of applying a nanoparticle coating composition onto a soft surface, said method comprising spraying said composition onto said soft surface.
- 9. A method for improving at least one of the following properties of a soft surface that undergoes multiple uses: surface cleaning, wetting, wicking flux, strike-through, comfort, stain resistance, soil removal, color enhancement, malodor control, modification of surface friction, and reduced damage to abrasion on a soft surface, said method comprising:
a) applying a coating composition according to claims 1 or 2 to modify said soft surface; and b) allowing said coating composition to dry to form a transparent coating on said soft surface.
- 10. An article of manufacture comprising: an applicator which is a spray dispenser, an immersion container, a hose spray dispenser attachment, a fabric or a sponge; further comprising:
a) a coating composition according to claims 1 or 2, wherein said coating composition is contained within said applicator; b) optionally a source of deionized water; c) optionally a source of tap water; and d) optionally a set of instructions in association with said applicator comprising an instruction to dispense said coating composition from said applicator onto a soft surface to modify said soft surface.
- 11. A coating composition according to claims 1 or 2 further comprising one or more charged functionalized molecules exhibiting properties selected from the group consisting of hydrophilic, hydrophobic and mixtures thereof, associated with at least some of said nanoparticles.
