Claims
- 1. A coating method for coating a surface of a coating substrate with a paint, said coating substrate supported so as to be rotatable about its approximately horizontal axis and having a non-circular shaped form, in section, perpendicular to a section extending parallel to the approximately horizontal axis, comprising:
- a coating step for coating the coating substrate with the paint to form a coating in a film thickness thicker than a thickness at which the paint sags on the surface of the coating substrate extending at least upwardly and downwardly; and
- a drying step for curing the paint of the coating;
- wherein the coating substrate is rotated about its horizontal axis prior to causing the paint of the coating formed on the surface of the coating substrate to sag, the rotation being carried out at least at a speed which is high enough to rotate the coating substrate from an approximately vertical position to an approximately horizontal position before the paint coating thereon substantially sags due to gravity yet which is slow enough so as to cause no sagging as a result of centrifugal force.
- 2. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the paint coated in said coating step contains a volatilizable solvent and said drying step substantially volatilizes the volatilizable solvent in the paint.
- 3. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a preparation step carried out prior to said coating step, said preparation step including cleaning said substrate by removing foreign materials therefrom and rotating said substrate about its horizontal axis.
- 4. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said substrate is conveyed from said preparation step to said drying step while being supported by a carriage with a rotation device disposed thereon for rotating said substrate about its horizontal axis.
- 5. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said substrate is conveyed from said preparation step to said drying step on a single carriage.
- 6. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said substrate is rotated in one direction.
- 7. A coating method as claimed in claim 6, wherein the rotation is carried out continually.
- 8. A coating method as claimed in claim 6, wherein the rotation is carried out intermittently.
- 9. A coating method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said substrate is rotated first in one direction and then in the opposite direction.
- 10. A coating method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the rotation is carried out continually in one direction and then continually in the opposite direction.
- 11. A coating method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the rotation is carried out intermittently in one direction and then intermittently in the opposite direction.
- 12. A coating method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the rotation in one direction is carried out through an angle of at least 90.degree. and the rotation in the opposite direction is carried out through an angle of at least 90.degree..
- 13. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said substrate is held in a substantially stationary fashion during said coating step.
- 14. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the paint is a powder paint.
- 15. A coating method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the paint is a thermosetting paint.
