Claims
- 1. A cobalt complex of N-alkylalkanohydroxamic acid having 8-30 carbon atoms and a solubility in hydrocarbon solvents of at least 2% by weight and organic solutions of said complex.
- 2. The complex of claim 1 wherein the oxidation state of the cobalt is Co(II) or Co(III).
- 3. The complex of claim 1 wherein the N-alkylalkanohydroxamic acid has the general formula R.sub.1 C(O)N(OH)R.sub.2 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each a linear, branched or cyclo aliphatic group such that said hydroxamic acid has at least about 8 and not more than about 30 carbon atoms and a solubility of at least 2% by weight in a hydrocarbon solvent.
- 4. The complex of claim 3 wherein the hydroxamic acid is N-methyloctanohydroxamic acid.
- 5. The complex of claim 3 wherein the hydroxamic acid is N-methyldecanohydroxamic acid.
- 6. The complex of claim 3 wherein the hydroxamic acid is N-isopropyldecanohydroxamic acid.
- 7. The complex of claim 3 wherein the hydroxamic acid is N-cyclohexyldecanohydroxamic acid.
- 8. The complex of claim 6 wherein the oxidation state of the cobalt is Co(III).
- 9. The complex of claim 7 wherein the oxidation state of the cobalt is Co(III).
