Claims
- 1. An immunogenic polypeptide which has the amino acid sequence (SEQ ID NO:1) lacking the first 20 amino acid residues of said polypeptide and which is substantially free of other proteins produced by Eimeria parasites.
- 2. An immunogenic polypeptide which is the in vivo processing product of a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence (SEQ ID NO:1) and is capable of inducing an immune response in chickens against Eimeria parasites, which is substantially free of other proteins produced by Eimeria parasites, and which has an apparent molecular weight of 23 kilodaltons as measured by SDS-PAGE.
- 3. A coccidiosis vaccine comprising a polypeptide of claim 2 and a physiologically acceptable carrier or adjuvant.
- 4. A method for protecting a chicken against coccidiosis comprising the step of administering an effective amount of a vaccine of claim 3 to the chicken.
- 5. A method of claim 4 wherein the effective amount is about 5 to about 50 micrograms per kilogram of the chicken's body weight.
- 6. A method of claim 4 wherein the effective amount is about 25 to about 50 micrograms per kilogram of the chicken's body weight.
- 7. A method of claim 4 comprising the additional step of administering single or multiple booster vaccinations to the chicken.
