Claims
- 1. A method for processing communication initiation signals in a base station included in a communication system, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) receiving a spread spectrum signal comprising at least one signal;
- (b) decoding the spread spectrum signal to recover the at least one signal;
- (c) determining that a first signal included in the at least one signal is a communication initiation signal; and
- (d) storing a time value indicative of a reception time associated with the communication initiation signal.
- 2. The method in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
- step (a) comprises the step of:
- (e) receiving an analog spread spectrum signal;
- step (b) comprises the steps of:
- (f) sampling the analog spread spectrum signal to form a digital waveform; and
- (g) multiplying a pseudo-noise (PN) sequence with the digital waveform to despread a first signal included within the analog spread spectrum signal; and
- step (c) comprises the step of:
- (h) determining that the PN sequence indicates that the first signal is a communication initiation signal.
- 3. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- (i) receiving information including at least one seed; and
- (j) transmitting a data signal comprising the at least one seed and the time value indicative of the reception time associated with the communication initiation signal.
- 4. A base station for receiving and processing a spread spectrum signal, comprising:
- a memory for storing the spread spectrum signal;
- processing means coupled to the memory for processing the spread spectrum signal to decode information included therein and for determining an information type;
- timing means coupled to the memory and the processing means for generating a time value indicative of a reception time of the spread spectrum signal, wherein the time value is stored in the memory when the information type is determined to correspond to a communication initiation signal.
- 5. The base station in accordance with claim 4, further comprising a transmitter for transmitting data including the time value indicative of the reception time of the spread spectrum signal.
