Claims
- 1. A prosthesis for treating a section of a body lumen comprising:a coiled sheet having a contracted state wherein the coiled sheet is wound to a first diameter to form a series of overlapping turns, and an expanded state wherein the coiled sheet has a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the coiled sheet expandable to the expanded state when released from the contracted state; and an elongate tubular member having an interior surface that is affixed to a circumferential edge on the exterior surface of said coiled sheet, wherein a portion of said elongate tubular member is wound within the overlapping turns of said coiled sheet when said coiled sheet is in its contracted state; and wherein said elongate tubular member doubles back on itself at the portion of said elongate tubular member that is wound within the overlapping turns of said coiled sheet.
- 2. A prosthesis for treating a section of a body lumen comprising:a coiled sheet having a contracted state wherein the coiled sheet is wound to a first diameter to form a series of overlapping turns, and an expanded state wherein the coiled sheet has a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the coiled sheet expandable to the expanded state when released from the contracted state; and an elongate tubular member having an interior surface that is affixed to a circumferential edge on the exterior surface of said coiled sheet, wherein said elongate tubular member is wound against the coiled sheet in a direction opposite to that of the coiled sheet.
- 3. A prosthesis for treating a section of a body lumen comprising:a coiled sheet having a contracted state wherein the coiled sheet is wound to a first diameter to form a series of overlapping turns, and an expanded state wherein the coiled sheet has a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the coiled sheet expandable to the expanded state when released from the contracted state; an elongate tubular member having an interior surface that is affixed to a circumferential edge on the exterior surface of said coiled sheet; an elastic member disposed in said elongate tubular member in proximity to the location at which the elongate tubular member is affixed to the coiled sheet, wherein said elastic member causes said elongate tubular member to gather; wherein said elastic member causes said elongate tubular member to form folds.
- 4. A prosthesis for treating a section of a body lumen comprising:a coiled sheet having a contracted state wherein the coiled sheet is wound to a first diameter to form a series of overlapping turns, and an expanded state wherein the coiled sheet has a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the coiled sheet expandable to the expanded state when released from the contracted state; and an elongate tubular member comprising graft material that has its edges sewn together to form a tube, and having an interior surface that is affixed to a circumferential edge on the exterior surface of said coiled sheet.
- 5. The prosthesis of claim 4, wherein said elongate tubular member has a diameter at least as large as the second diameter of said coiled sheet.
- 6. The prosthesis of claim 4, wherein a portion of said elongate tubular member is wound within the overlapping turns of said coiled sheet when said coiled sheet is in its contracted state.
- 7. The prosthesis of claim 4, wherein said elongate tubular member doubles back on itself at the portion of said elongate tubular member that is wound within the overlapping turns of said coiled sheet.
- 8. The prosthesis of claim 4, wherein said elongate tubular member is wound against the coiled sheet in a direction opposite to that of the coiled sheet.
- 9. The prosthesis of claim 4, further comprising an elastic member disposed in said elongate tubular member in proximity to the location at which the elongate tubular member is affixed to the coiled sheet, wherein said elastic member causes said elongate tubular member to gather.
- 10. The prosthesis of claim 9, wherein said elastic member causes said elongate tubular member to form folds.
- 11. The prosthesis of claim 9, wherein said elastic member comprises a plurality of elastic filaments.
