Claims
- 1. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter comprising:
- means for accepting a deposited coin in said electronic parking meter;
- a single inductor;
- means for guiding said deposited coin past said inductor, said deposited coin causing a momentary change in the value of inductance of said inductor;
- phase lock loop electronic circuit having an input connected to said inductor, said phase lock loop electronic circuit providing a correction signal for said phase lock loop electronic circuit, said correction signal compensating for said change in the value of inductance of said inductor, said correction signal having a wave shape unique to said deposited coin; and
- microprocessor receiving said correction signal waveform for comparison to a plurality of predetermined wave shapes of a plurality of known coins to thereby identify said deposited coin, said plurality of predetermined wave shapes stored in a memory connected to said microprocessor,
- said phase lock loop electronic circuit having an L-C oscillator providing a predetermined input frequency and outputting a series of pulses when a deposited coin passes said inductor; and
- an integrating circuit for integrating said series of pulses and outputting said correction signal.
- 2. The coin discriminator system described in claim 1, wherein said system has a means for enabling said phase lock loop electronic circuit by said microprocessor in response to a door switch signal provided by a door switch in said means for accepting a deposited coin when said deposited coin is inserted in said means for accepting and activates said door switch.
- 3. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter comprising:
- means for accepting a deposited coin in said electronic parking meter;
- means for guiding said deposited coin past an inductor, said deposited coin causing a momentary change in the value of inductance of said inductor;
- phase lock loop electronic circuit having an input connected to said inductor, said phase lock loop electronic circuit providing a correction signal for said phase lock loop electronic circuit, said correction signal compensating for said change in the value of inductance of said inductor, said correction signal having a wave shape unique to said deposited coin; and
- microprocessor receiving said correction signal waveform for comparison to a plurality of predetermined wave shapes of a plurality of known coins to thereby identify said deposited coin, said plurality of predetermined wave shapes stored in a memory connected to said microprocessor, said phase lock loop electronic circuit having an L-C oscillator connected to said inductor for providing a predetermined frequency in the absence of said deposited coin to a frequency input of a phase lock loop integrated circuit, said phase lock loop integrated circuit outputting a series of pulses indicative of a change from said predetermined frequency when a deposited coin passes said inductor, an integrating circuit for integrating said series of pulses and outputting said correction signal to a voltage control input of said phase lock loop integrated circuit.
- 4. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter comprising:
- means for accepting a deposited coin in said electronic parking meter and having at least a door switch for providing a door switch signal when said coin is inserted into said means for accepting;
- means for guiding said deposited coin past an inductor, said deposited coin causing a momentary change in the value of inductance of said inductor, a first terminal of said inductor connected in circuit to ground;
- NAND gate having a first input connected to a second terminal of said inductor and having an output connected to an oscillator capacitor;
- microprocessor connected to a memory having stored therein at least one predetermined wave shape of a known coin, said microprocessor receiving said door switch signal, said microprocessor having an enable output connected to a second input of said NAND gate and an input of a Schmidt trigger;
- phase lock loop integrated circuit at least having a frequency input connected to said oscillator capacitor, having an inhibit input connected to an output of said Schmidt trigger add having an output providing a series of pulses indicative of a frequency change at said frequency input;
- a low pass filter for integrating said series of pulses and having an input connected to said output of said phase lock loop integrated circuit and having an output providing a correction signal to a voltage control input of said phase lock loop integrated circuit and to a data input of said microprocessor, said correction signal having a wave shape unique to said deposited coin whereby said wave shape of said correction signal is produced by said phase lock loop integrated circuit as said deposited coin passes said inductor; and
- said microprocessor comparing said wave shape of said deposited coin to said wave shape of said known coin in order to identify said deposited coin.
- 5. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter according to claim 4, wherein said memory has stored therein a plurality of wave shapes corresponding to a plurality of known coins and wherein said microprocessor compares said wave shape of said deposited coin to said plurality of wave shapes to identify said coin.
- 6. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter according to claim 5, wherein said microprocessor causes said electronic parking meter to reject said deposited coin if said wave shape of said deposited coin does not substantially match any of said plurality of wave shapes.
- 7. A coin discriminator system for use in an electronic parking meter comprising means for accepting a deposited coin;
- means for guiding said deposited coin past an inductor, said deposited coin causing a momentary change in the value of inductance of said inductor;
- phase lock loop electronic circuit having an input connected to said inductor, said phase lock loop electronic circuit providing a correction signal for said phase lock loop electronic circuit, said correction signal compensating for said change in the value of inductance of said inductor said correction signal having a wave shape unique to said deposited coin, said phase lock loop electronic circuit having an L-C oscillator connected to said inductor for providing a predetermined frequency in the absence of said deposited coin to a frequency input of a phase lock loop integrated circuit, said phase lock loop integrated circuit outputting a series of pulses indicative of a change from said predetermined frequency when said deposited coin passes said inductor, an integrating circuit for integrating said series of pulses and outputting said correction signal to a voltage control input of said phase lock loop integrated circuit.
