Claims
- 1. A display device for use in conjunction with a computer system, said display device including a cathode, comprising;
- a layer of conductive material; and
- a layer of polycrystalline diamond deposited over said conductive material, said polycrystalline diamond having a relatively flat emission surface comprising a plurality of distributed localized relatively flat electron emission sites.
- 2. The display device as recited in claim 1 wherein said emission sites have electrical properties which are discontinuous from each other.
- 3. The display device as recited in claim 1 wherein said sites have at least two different electron affinities.
- 4. The display device as recited in claim 1 wherein each said site is under 1 micron in diameter.
- 5. The display device as recited in claim 1 wherein each said site is less than or equal to 0.1 micron in diameter.
- 6. The display device as recited in claim 1 wherein some of said polycrystalline diamond is amorphic diamond.

This is a division of application Ser. No. 08/071,157 filed Jun. 2, 1993, which is a continuation-in-part of Ser. No. 07/851,701, filed on Mar. 16, 1992, entitled "Flat Panel Display Based on Diamond Thin Films", now abandoned.
