Claims
- 1. A helmet comprising:
a head portion; and a jaw shield comprising
a fixed portion rigidly connected to the head portion, and a moveable portion disposed at a lower, front, middle portion of the helmet adjacent to the fixed portion and removably attached thereto.
- 2. A helmet according to claim 1, wherein the fixed portion of the jaw shield comprises right and left portions that extend forwardly and inwardly toward each other from right and left sides of the head portion.
- 3. A helmet according to claim 1, further comprising:
a separable hinge comprising a first part connected to the moveable portion and a second part connected to the fixed portion, the second part being selectively engageable with the first part.
- 4. A helmet according to claim 1, wherein the moveable portion pivots outwardly and downwardly relative to the fixed portion.
- 5. A helmet according to claim 4, further comprising:
a latch to hold the detachable portion to the fixed portion when in the attached position, whereby the latch engages the fixed portion when the moveable portion is in the attached position.
- 6. A helmet according to claim 3, wherein:
one of the first and second parts comprises a pin extending between free ends of the fixed portion; and the other of the first and second parts comprises a C-shaped clip that is engageable with the pin such that the pin and C-shaped section are rotatable relative to each other when engaged.
- 7. A helmet according to claim 5, wherein the latch mechanism comprises:
at least one hook disposed on one of first and second lateral sides of the moveable portion; and at least one catch plate disposed on one of first and second lateral sides of the fixed portion, whereby the at least one hook selectively engages the at least one catch plate, when the moveable portion is in the attached position.
- 8. A helmet according to claim 1, wherein the moveable portion is completely removable from the fixed portion.
- 9. A helmet according to claim 2, wherein the moveable portion is completely removable from the fixed portion.
- 10. A helmet according to claim 2, wherein the helmet further includes an eye shield having a lower edge, the eye shield connected to the head portion for movement relative thereto.
- 11. A helmet according to claim 10, wherein:
the right portion of the jaw shield further includes a first channel, the left portion of the jaw shield further includes a second channel, and the moveable portion further includes a third channel, the first, second, and third channels aligning with each other when the moveable portion is in the attached position, whereby the lower edge of the eye shield extends into the first, second and third channels when the eye shield is in the lowered position.
- 12. A helmet according to claim 1, wherein the moveable portion further includes a breathing mask attached thereto projecting into an inner space defined by the jaw shield, the head portion and the moveable portion.
- 13. A helmet according to claim 12, further comprising:
an adjustable connector connecting the breathing mask to the removable portion, adjustment operation of the connector selectively moving the breathing mask (a) away from the moveable portion and (b) toward the moveable portion.
- 14. A helmet comprising:
a head portion; and a jaw shield comprising
a left portion having a rear end and a forward end, the left portion connected to the head portion at the rear end of the left portion, a right portion having a rear end and a forward end, the right portion connected to the hear portion at the rear end of the right portion, and a moveable portion disposed adjacent the forward ends of the left and right portions.
- 15. A helmet according to claim 14, wherein the moveable portion pivots outwardly and downwardly relative to the fixed portion.
- 16. A helmet according to claim 14, wherein the moveable portion is completely removable from the fixed portion.
- 17. A helmet according to claim 15, wherein the moveable portion is completely removable from the fixed portion.
