Claims
- 1. A collapsible automobile shade comprising:
a base; a first frame member extending from said base and a second frame member pivotally connected to said base; a pleated screen which can be selectively moved between an opened position and a collapsed position, said screen being connected to said first frame member along one edge of said screen being connected to said second frame member along an adjacent edge of said screen; and a mounting assembly for mounting the shade in a vehicle
- 2. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 1 wherein the shade is mountable to a visor in said car; said mounting assembly includes at least one clip sized and shaped to snappingly engage one of said frame members and a mounting extending from said clip.
- 3. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 2 wherein said mount includes a strap which wraps around said visor.
- 4. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 2 wherein said mount includes a pair of legs sized and shaped to grippingly engage the visor.
- 5. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 1 wherein said shade is mountable in a window of the automobile, the mounting assembly including a clip which snappingly engages one of said frame members and a mounting member which holds said clip to said window.
- 6. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 5 wherein said mounting member is chosen from the group consisting of a hook sized and shaped to fit over a top edge of said window, a suction cup, or combinations thereof.
- 7. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 1 wherein said shade is mountable in a window of the automobile, the mounting assembly including an retractable/extendable member comprising a first portion and a second portion, said first and second portions being moveable axially relative to each other, said first and second portions being biased apart by a biasing element.
- 8. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 7 wherein said mounting member comprises one of said frame members.
- 9. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 1 wherein said first frame member is an elongate member; said automobile shade including a base at opposite ends of said elongate frame member, a second frame member pivotally mounted to each of said bases, and an expandable/collapsible screen connected to each of said second frame members, each of said screens being moveable between a collapsed position in which said second frame members are substantially parallel to said elongate frame member and an expanded position in which said second frame members are generally perpendicular to each other; said screens being sized to overlap each other when in the expanded position.
- 10. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 1 including a closure member to maintain said shade in its closed position; said closure member including a clip sized and shaped to engage one of said frame members and a strap extending from said clip; said strap having at least one free end and a fastener on said strap; said strap being sized and shaped to extend around said shade when in the collapsed position, and said fastener being position on said strap to maintain said strap around said shade.
- 11. A collapsible automobile shade comprising;
an elongate base having front and back walls defining a channel; a frame member pivotally connected to said base; and a pleated screen connected along a first edge to said frame member and having a second edge received in said base channel; said screen first edge being adjacent said screen second edge; said shade being movable between an opened position in which said frame member is upright relative to said base and said screen is extended along said base and a closed position in which said screen is collapsed, and said screen is substantially received in said base channel.
- 12. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 11 wherein said base front wall includes a slot extending axially along said base front wall; said shade including a button which extends through said slot and is operatively connected to an edge of said screen opposite said first edge of said screen; said button engaging said slot to maintain said shade opened to a desired degree.
- 13. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 11 wherein said frame member is a compressible frame member sized to fit between two opposing surfaces of a vehicle.
- 14. The collapsible automobile shade of claim 11 including a second screen and a second frame member pivotally connected to said base; said first and second screens being movable between a closed position in which movable ends of said. screens are substantially adjacent each other and an opened position in which the movable ends of said screens are remote from each other.
- 15. A foldable automobile shade for use in an automobile to prevent sunlight from entering the automobile; the shade comprising:
a pleated screen having a plurality of parallel pleats, said screen being selectively movable between an unfolded position in which said screen can cover at least a portion of a vehicle window and a folded position; said screen, when folded, having a height less than the height of a visor of the automobile; and at least one mounting strap for mounting the screen to a visor of the automobile; the strap being mountable to the visor and including a pair of opposed free ends; said free ends being connectable together to wrap around said screen when folded to hold said screen in its folded position.
- 16. The foldable automobile shade of claim 15 wherein said screen includes a vertical fold line substantially perpendicular to said pleats, said screen being sized and said vertical fold line being positioned, such that said screen, when folded, is not larger than said visor.
- 17. The foldable automobile shade of claim 15 including a secondary visor mounted to an edge of said screen; said secondary visor being movable between a raised position and a lowered position when said shade is in its folded position
- 18. The foldable automobile shade of claim 17 wherein said secondary visor is made of a transparent plastic
- 19. The foldable automobile shade of claim 17 wherein said secondary visor is substantially opaque, and includes a mirror thereon
