Claims
- 1. A collapsible three-dimensional enclosure, comprising:
at least one first layout that contains at least one of side member; at least one second layout that contains at least two of side members interconnected through a foldable connection, said first layout and said second layout each having a substantially rectangular configuration defined by a first pair of parallel edges and a second pair of parallel edges which are substantially perpendicular to said first pair of parallel edges; and locking elements formed in a proximity to at least one of said first pair of parallel edges and said second pair of parallel edges, said locking elements being selected from the group consisting of a male locking element and a complementary female locking element with a groove extending in a first direction, each said male locking element being insertable into said groove of each of said complementary female locking element in a second direction substantially perpendicular to said first direction with a snapping action which forms a rigid connection irreversible in said second direction but being slidable in said first direction, said grooves each having at least one open end so that said layouts are assemblable to form the enclosure and disassemblable.
- 2. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 1, wherein at least two of said side members of at least one of said first layout and said second layout are rigid side members and remaining side members are flexable side members, at least two of said side members of said first layout and said second layout being overlapped with one another, and each of said first layout and said second layout having on one of said pair of parallel edges said male locking element and on another of said pair of parallel edges said complementary female locking element so that said first layout and said second layout are lockable onto themselves by engaging said male locking element with said complementary female locking element.
- 3. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 2 wherein in said at least one second layout said rigid side members which are adjacent to said flexible side members and define edges of said enclosure have positioning grooves which are parallel and adjacent to said edges of said enclosure, and which receive one of said pairs of parallel edges of said at least one first layout.
- 4. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 1, wherein at least said first layout is composed of a sheet material having a thickness, and said foldable connection being a portion of at least of said first layout that is thinner than said thickness.
- 5. The collapsible three-dimension enclosure of claim 1, wherein said rigid connection is formed by said male locking element and said complementary female locking element, at least one of said male locking element and said complementary female locking element having at least one flexible element which has a first dimension in a free state and is deformable a second dimension, and another of said male locking element and said complementary female locking element having arresting means for irreversibly locking said flexible element substantially in said second dimension when said male locking element is inserted into said female locking element.
- 6. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 1, wherein said first layout and said second layout are composed of an extruded material having a direction of extrusion and wherein said first direction coincides with said direction of extrusion.
- 7. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 5, wherein said first layout and said second layout are made of an extruded material having a direction of extrusion and wherein said first direction coincides with said direction of extrusion.
- 8. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 7, wherein said second layout is an outer layout and said first layout is an inner layout which is at least partially surrounded by said outer layer.
- 9. A collapsible box and comprising:
a first layout that contains at least three side members; and a second layout that contains at least three of side members interconnected through a foldable connection, at least one of said side members of said first layout and at least one of said side members of said second layout being overlapped; said first layout and said second layout each having a substantially rectangular configuration defined by a first pair of parallel edges and a second pair of parallel edges which are substantially perpendicular to said first pair of parallel edges; and locking elements in a proximity to said at least one of said first pair of parallel edges and said second pair of parallel edges, said locking elements being selected from the group consisting of a male locking element with a projection and a complementary female locking element with a groove extending in a first direction, each said projection of said male locking element being insertable into said groove of said complementary female locking element in a second direction substantially perpendicular to said first direction with a snapping action which forms a rigid connection irreversible in said second direction but being slidable in said first direction, said grooves each having at least one open end so that said layouts are assemblable to form said enclosure and disassemblable, said female locking elements being formed in one of said first layout and said second layout, and said male locking elements being formed in another of said first layout and said second layout.
- 10. The collapsible box of claim 9, wherein at least said first layout is composed of a sheet material having a thickness, and said foldable connection being at least one crease which is substantially perpendicular to said first direction.
- 11. The collapsible box of claim 10, wherein said rigid connection is formed by a pair of said male locking element and said female locking element at least one of which has a flexible element which has a first dimension in a free state is deformable to a second dimension, and another of which has an arresting means for irreversibly locking said flexible element substantially in said second dimension when said male locking element is inserted into said female locking element.
- 12. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 11, wherein said first layout and said second layout are composed of an extruded material having a direction of extrusion and wherein said first direction coincides with said direction of extrusion.
- 13. The collapsible three-dimensional enclosure of claim 12, wherein said second layout is an outer layout and said first layout is an inner layout which is at least partially surrounded by said outer layer.
- 14. A method of manufacturing a collapsible three-dimensional enclosure comprising of at least one substantially flat outer layout having an inner side and an outer side and at least one substantially flat inner layout having an inner side and an outer side with at least said one outer layout being foldable into a first folded configuration, the method comprising the steps of:
forming said at least one outer layout having a pair of opposite and substantially parallel edges; forming said at least one inner layout having a pair of opposite and substantially parallel edges; forming locking elements of a first type in said at least one outer layout in a proximity to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout, said locking elements of said first type having a longitudinal direction extending substantially parallel to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout; forming locking elements of a second type in said at least one inner layout in the proximity to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout, said locking elements of said second type having a longitudinal direction extending substantially parallel to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout; said locking elements of said first type and said locking elements of said second type being complementary and selected from the group consisting of a male locking element and a complementary female locking element, said locking elements of said first type and said locking elements of said second type being irreversibly connectable with each other when said male locking element is inserted into said complementary female locking element in a direction substantially perpendicular to said inner side of said outer layout and disengageble and slidable in said longitudinal direction of said first locking element; forming folding creases in required positions of said at least one outer layout in the direction substantially transverse to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout; folding said at least one outer layout along said folding creases to form said first folded configuration; inserting said at least one inner layout into said first folded configuration; and forming said enclosure by irreversibly inserting said locking elements of said first type in said direction of insertion into locking elements of said second type.
- 15. The method of claim 14, wherein said steps of forming said at least one outer layout, said at least one inner layout, and said locking elements include a continuous extrusion, said outer layout and said inner layout being extruded simultaneously with extrusion of their respective locking elements.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising the step of forming folding creases in required positions of said at least one inner layout in the direction substantially transverse to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout.
- 17. The method of claim 15, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extending at least two or more of said at least one outer layouts arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
- 18. The method of claim 15, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extending at least two or more of said at least one inner layout arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
- 19. The method of claim 15, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extruding at least one inner layout and at least one outer layout arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
- 20. A method of manufacturing a collapsible three-dimensional enclosure consisting of at least one substantially flat outer layout having an inner side and an outer side and at least one substantially flat inner layout having an inner side and an outer side with said at least one outer layout being foldable into a first folded configuration and with said at least one inner layout being foldable into a second folded configuration, the method comprising the steps of:
forming said at least one outer layout having a pair of opposite and substantially parallel edges; forming said at least one inner layout having a pair of opposite and substantially parallel edges; forming locking elements of a first type in said at least one outer layout in a proximity to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout, said locking elements of said first type having a longitudinal direction extending substantially parallel to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout; forming locking elements of a second type in said at least one inner layout in the proximity to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout, said locking elements of said second type having a longitudinal direction extending substantially parallel to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout; said locking elements of said first type and said locking elements of said second type being complementary and selected from the group consisting of a male locking element and a complementary female locking element, said locking elements of said first type and said locking elements of said second type being irreversibly connectable with each other when said male locking element is inserted into said complementary female locking element in a direction substantially perpendicular to said inner side of said outer layout and disengageble and slidable in said longitudinal direction of said first locking element; forming folding creases in required positions of said at least one outer layout in the direction substantially transverse to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one outer layout; forming folding creases in required positions of said at least one inner layout in the direction substantially transverse to said first pair of said opposite and substantially parallel edges of said at least one inner layout; folding said at least one outer layout along said folding creases of said outer layout to form said first folded configuration; folding said at least one inner layout along said folding creases of said inner layout to form said second folded configuration; inserting said second folded configuration into said first folded configuration; and forming said enclosure by irreversibly inserting said locking elements of said first type in said direction of insertion into locking elements of said second type.
- 21. The method of claim 20, wherein said steps of forming said at least one outer layout, said at least one inner layout, and said locking elements include a continuous extrusion, said outer layout and said inner layout being extruded simultaneously with extrusion of their respective locking elements.
- 22. The method of claim 20, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extruding at least two or more of said at least one outer layouts arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
- 23. The method of claim 20, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extruding at least two or more of said at least one inner layouts arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
- 24. The method of claim 20, wherein said continuous extrusion includes extruding at least one inner layout and at least one outer layout arranged in parallel with one another and extruded simultaneously with their respective locking elements.
