Claims
- 1. A pigment comprising nanofillers, wherein the nanofillers are produced by a method comprising:
providing a solution for each of one or more desired constituent elements of desired nanofillers; mixing the solutions containing each of the constituent elements of the desired nanofillers to form a mix of solutions; preparing the nanofillers from the mix of solutions by combustion; coating the nanofillers; and wherein the nanofillers exhibit a transparency to light that differs by more than 20% as compared with the transparency to light exhibited by fillers of similar composition with powders having a domain size of at least one micron.
- 2. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the mix of solutions includes a dopant.
- 3. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the coating comprises an organic substance.
- 4. A layer prepared from the pigment of claim 1.
- 5. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the nanofillers comprise oxide.
- 6. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the nanofillers comprise metal.
- 7. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the pigment exhibits a color.
- 8. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the nanofillers comprise two or more elements selected from the group consisting of: aluminum, barium, bismuth, cadmium, calcium, cerium, cesium, cobalt, copper, europium, gallium, gold, indium, iron, lanthanum, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, niobium, palladium, platinum, potassium, praseodymium, scandium, silver, sodium, strontium, tantalum, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, ytterbium, yttrium, zinc, and zirconium.
- 9. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the nanofillers comprise one or more elements selected from the group consisting of: antimony, boron, bromine, carbon, chlorine, fluorine, germanium, hydrogen, iodine, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, selenium, silicon, sulfur, and tellurium.
- 10. The pigment of claim 1 wherein the nanofillers comprise of three or more metals.
- 11. A layer prepared using the pigment of claim 10.
- 12. A pigment comprising polymetallic nanofillers, wherein the polymetallic nanofillers are produced using a method comprising:
providing a solution for each of one or more desired constituent elements of a desired polymetallic nanofiller; mixing the solutions containing each of the constituent elements of the desired polymetallic nanofiller to form a mix of solutions; preparing polymetallic nanofillers from the mix of solutions in a thermal plasma process; mixing the polymetallic nanofillers in a liquid matrix; and wherein the polymetallic nanofillers have a domain size less than 100 nanometers.
- 13. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the liquid matrix comprises of an organic fluid.
- 14. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the polymetallic nanofillers are coated.
- 15. A layer prepared from the pigment of claim 12.
- 16. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the polymetallic nanofillers comprise oxide.
- 17. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the polymetallic nanofillers comprise nanorods.
- 18. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the polymetallic nanofillers comprise nanowhiskers.
- 19. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the pigment is yellow.
- 20. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the pigment is blue.
- 21. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the pigment is brown.
- 22. The pigment of claim 12 wherein the nanofillers comprise nitride.
- 23. A pigment composition comprising:
inorganic multimetallic nanofillers with domain size less than 50 nanometers, wherein the nanofillers have been surface modified; and wherein the nanofillers exhibit a transparency to light that differs by more than 20% as compared with the transparency to light exhibited by fillers of similar composition with powders having a domain size of at least one micron
- 24. A nanocomposite comprising the pigment composition of claim 23.
- 25. The pigment of claim 23 wherein the nanofillers comprise two or more elements selected from the group consisting of: aluminum, bismuth, cadmium, calcium, cerium, cobalt, copper, europium, indium, iron, lithium, lanthanum, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, niobium, potassium, praseodymium, silicon, silver, sodium, strontium, tantalum, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, ytterbium, yttrium, zinc, and zirconium.
- 26. The pigment of claim 23 wherein the pigment exhibits a color.
- 27. The pigment of claim 25 wherein the pigment exhibits a color.
