Claims
- 1. A printing apparatus comprising:
a print unit (1) having a print head (16) for printing an image on a receiving medium (10); medium supply means (2) for feeding said receiving medium (10) to said print unit (1) is characterised in that the printing apparatus further includes a medium alignment system (20, 37, 38) having:
at least one alignment sensor (37, 38) for determining the alignment of said receiving medium (10) in said print unit (1); an alignment correction system for correcting said alignment.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising a tumbler unit (3) coupled to said print unit (1) for reversing said receiving medium (10).
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said alignment correction system comprises at least two drive rollers (20) for independently driving said receiving medium (10).
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 3 further comprising a tumbler unit (3) coupled to said print unit (1) for reversing said receiving medium (10) wherein said alignment correction system is located inside said tumbler unit (3).
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said tumbler unit (3) comprises:
pinch rollers (19) each for forming a nip (30) with a corresponding drive roller (20) and; having means for changing the orientation of said nip (30).
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 5 wherein said pinch rollers (19) are on a rotatable platform (24) and the tumbler unit (3) has means for locking the rotatable platform at different positions (A, B, C).
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6 further comprising locking means (32, 33) for coupling said rotatable platform (24) to at least one of said drive rollers (20) providing synchronous rotation of said rotatable platform (24) with said drive roller (20).
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said medium supply means (2) is a device for feeding a medium from a roll, said device comprising a de-curling roller (9).
- 9. Method for printing images on a front and back side of a receiving medium (10) comprising the steps of:
feeding the receiving medium (10) to a print unit (1) having a print head (16); printing a first image on said front-side using said print head (16); feeding the receiving medium (10) to a tumbler unit (3); tumbling said receiving medium (10) in said tumbler unit (3); re-feeding said receiving medium (10) to said print unit (1); sensing the alignment of said receiving medium (10) by at least one alignment sensor (37, 38); printing an second image on the back-side using said print head (16); is characterised in that the method further comprises the step of correcting said alignment of said receiver medium (10) prior to printing said image on said back-side.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein the re-feeding of the receiving medium (10) is done in a stepwise manner
