Abstract
A comb assembly includes a comb body having a plurality of teeth. The plurality of teeth form a first row and a second row on the comb body. The comb assembly also has an insert that selectively connects to and disconnects from the comb body in between the first row of the plurality of teeth and the second row of the plurality of teeth so that the comb can be used with or without the insert.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure relates to items for grooming hair. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a comb having teeth, bristles, pins and/or the like that is selectively connectable to an insert having teeth, bristles, pins and/or the like.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Combs include spaced teeth so that the teeth pass through hair for arranging, smoothing, detangling, styling and/or holding the hair. Conventional combs include teeth of a fixed shape with spacing of a fixed size. This fixed shape and spacing size of the teeth can undesirably limit the use of the comb.

Accordingly, it has been determined by the present disclosure that there is a continuing need for a device that overcomes, alleviates, and/or mitigates one or more of the aforementioned and other deleterious effects of prior devices.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure includes a comb assembly that has a comb that can selectively connect to an insert.

The present disclosure further includes that the comb has two rows of the comb teeth that are fixed. The insert that has “pins” or bristles is received between the two rows of the comb teeth. A user can selectively use the comb with or without the insert.

The present disclosure still further provides that the comb teeth can be wavy teeth that are relatively widely spaced apart. The comb teeth can be used for de-tangling, especially wet or damp hair. Adding the insert with the pins between the two rows of the comb teeth provides an overall configuration of the comb teeth and the pins to form gaps for the hair to pass between adjacent pins and/or comb bristles that are narrowed, thereby facilitating more standard combing of hair after tangles are reduced.

Accordingly, a comb assembly is provided that includes a comb body having a plurality of teeth. The plurality of teeth form a first row and a second row on the comb body. The comb assembly also has an insert that selectively connects to and disconnects from the comb body in between the first row of the plurality of teeth and the second row of the plurality of teeth so that the comb can be used with or without the insert.

The above-described and other features and advantages of the present disclosure will be appreciated and understood by those skilled in the art from the following detailed description, drawings, and appended claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to the drawings and in particular to FIGS. 1 and 2, an exemplary embodiment of a comb assembly according to the present disclosure is shown and is generally referred to by reference numeral 10 (“assembly 10”). Comb assembly 10 has a comb 100 and an insert 200. Advantageously, a user can selectively use comb 100 of comb assembly 10 with or without insert 200. As shown in FIG. 2, comb 100 can be used without insert 200 for de-tangling, especially wet or damp hair, and, as shown in FIG. 1, comb 100 can be used with insert 200 facilitating more standard combing of hair after tangles in the hair are reduced.

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, comb 100 has a body 101. Body 101 has a head portion 102 connected to a handle portion 104. Head portion 102 has teeth 106 that form a first row 108 and a second row 110. Head portion 102 has a space 111 between first row 108 of teeth 106 and second row 110 of teeth 106 that has a width W1. Teeth 106 have a wavy shape. Teeth 106 include first end teeth 107a, 107b on a side of head portion 102 that is opposite handle portion 104. First end teeth 107a, 107b have a shape that is different than other teeth 106 and only have a wavy shape on one side. Teeth 106 have second end teeth 109a, 109b on a side of head portion 102 that is adjacent handle portion 104. Second end teeth 109a, 109b have a shape that is different than other teeth 106 and only have a wavy shape on one side. As shown in FIG. 3, teeth 106 can have a length L1. Comb 100 has a spacing having a distance D1 between each teeth 106. As shown in FIG. 4, head portion 102 has a middle wall 112 formed between first row 108 of teeth 106 and second row 110 of teeth 106. A slot 114 is formed at an end of middle wall 112 that is opposite handle portion 104. Slot 114 is formed between middle wall 112 and first end teeth 107a, 107b. Slot 114 has a slot portion 115a with a width W2 that is greater than a width W3 of a slot portion 115b. As shown in FIG. 5, head portion can have a width W4. A lower wall 116 extends from an end of middle wall 112 that is adjacent handle portion 104. Handle portion 104 has a width W5 that is sized to be gripped by a user while combing hair. Comb 100 is made of a material, for example, plastic.

Referring to FIG. 2, insert 200 has bristles or pins 202 that extend from an insert support 204. Insert support 204 has a support body 205. Support body 205 has a length L2 that is greater than a width W6 and depth DP1. As shown in FIG. 4, an extension 206 extends from support body 205. Extension 206 is sized to fit in slot 114 of head portion 102 to connect insert 200 to comb 100, for example, by friction fit, snap fit or other connection. Referring back to FIG. 2, support 204 may also include a protrusion 208 that is sized to fit in a depression in lower wall 116. Alternatively, insert 200 can selectively connect and disconnect from comb 100 by other connections instead of extension 206, slot 114, protrusion 208 and the depression in lower wall 116. Support body 205 is made of a material, for example, plastic. Each of pins 202 is straight and has a thickness that is thinner than each of teeth 106 of comb 100. Insert 200 has a spacing having a distance D2 between each of pins 202. Distance D2 between each pins is less than distance D1 between teeth 106. Pins 202 are made of a material, for example, twisted strands of metal.

A user can comb hair using only comb 100 without insert 200, as shown in FIG. 2. The user can also comb hair with insert 200 connected to comb 100, as shown in FIG. 1. Accordingly, the present disclosure provides comb 100 having insert 200 that is a sliding insert with bristles or pins 202 that can be metal so that insert 200 is slidingly received in between first row 108 of teeth 106 and second row 110 of teeth 106 where teeth are fixed, wavy comb teeth. The wavy, relatively widely spaced apart teeth 106 of comb 100 can be used for de-tangling, especially wet or damp hair. Adding insert 200 with pins 202 to comb 100, the overall configuration of teeth 106 that are the wavy bristles and pins 202 is such that the gap for the hair to pass between adjacent pins 202 and/or teeth 106 is narrowed, thereby facilitating more standard combing of hair after tangles are reduced. Thus, a user can selectively use comb 100 with or without insert 200.

It should also be noted that the terms “first”, “second”, “third”, “upper”, “lower”, and the like may be used herein to modify various elements. These modifiers do not imply a spatial, sequential, or hierarchical order to the modified elements unless specifically stated.

While the present disclosure has been described with reference to one or more exemplary embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes can be made and equivalents can be substituted for elements thereof without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. In addition, many modifications can be made to adapt a particular situation or material to the teachings of the disclosure without departing from the scope thereof. Therefore, it is intended that the present disclosure should not be limited to the particular embodiment(s) disclosed as the best mode contemplated, but that the disclosure will include all embodiments falling within the scope of the appended claims.
