BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(1) Field of the Invention

The disclosure relates to combat sport gloves and more particularly pertains to a new combat sport glove for protecting a hand and a wrist from injury during participation in a combat sport.

(2) Description of Related Art Including Information Disclosed Under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98

The prior art discloses examples of combat sport gloves comprising a grip being positioned in a front portion of a cavity in the glove. The prior art also describes a combat sports glove which includes layers of padding which are intended to be positioned over an inner wrist of a user. However, the prior art does not describe a combat sports glove with a resiliently compressible grip and a plurality of wrist supports for positioning over a user's wrist to inhibit dorsiflexion of the wrist.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a body defining a cavity which has a size such that the cavity is configured for receiving a hand and a wrist of a user. The body is elongated between a front end and a rear end of the body and has an opening to the cavity positioned on the rear end of the body. A grip is mounted to the body and positioned in a front portion of the cavity, and a wrist support is coupled to the body and is positioned in a rear portion of the cavity. The wrist support is positioned such that the wrist support is configured to extend over the wrist and abut a dorsal side of the hand and a forearm of the user.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new combat sport glove embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the combat sport glove apparatus 10 generally comprises a body 12 defining a cavity 14 which has a size such that the cavity 14 is configured for receiving a hand 48 and a wrist 52 of a user 46. The body 12 is elongated between a front end 16 and a rear end 18 of the body 12 and has an opening 20 to the cavity 14 positioned on the rear end 18 of the body 12. A grip 26 is mounted to the body 12 and is positioned in a front portion 22 of the cavity 14. The grip 26 comprises an elongated member 28 extending laterally with respect to the body 12 and a cover 30 surrounding the elongated member 28. The elongated member 28 comprises a rigid material such that the elongated member 28 is configured to resist deformation when the hand 48 grasps the grip 26 and an impact urges the hand 48 against the grip 26. The rigid material is a plastic but may be metal, wood, or the like. The cover 30 comprises a resiliently compressible material such that the cover 30 is configured to absorb an energy of the impact which urges the hand 48 against the grip 26. The resiliently compressible material is neoprene but may be rubber, polymer foam, or the like. The elongated member 28 has a cylindrical shape such that the impact does not concentrate forces onto a protruding edge as may happen with triangular prisms, rectangular prisms, and like shapes.

A plurality of wrist supports 32 is coupled to the body 12 and is positioned in a rear portion 24 of the cavity 14. The plurality of wrist supports 32 is positioned adjacent to an upper side 34 of the cavity 14 and is positioned such that each wrist support 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 is configured to extend over the wrist 52 and abut a dorsal side 50 of the hand 48 and a forearm 54 of the user 46. Each wrist support 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 comprising a resiliently bendable material such that each wrist support 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 is configured to cushion the hand 48 when the hand 48 dorsiflexes, which is the bending of the wrist 52 such that the dorsal side 50 of the hand 48 moves to face the forearm 54. The plurality of wrist supports 32 may also cushion the hand 48 when the hand 48 deviates toward either of a radius or an ulna of the user 46, also referred to as adduction and abduction of the wrist 52 respectively. The resiliently bendable material may be a rubber, a polymer, or the like. The wrist supports 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 are radially arranged with respect to the cavity 14 and are spaced from each other such that the body 12 can be freely transversely compressed until adjacent wrist supports 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 are in abutment with each other.

A length of each wrist support 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 extending longitudinally with respect to the body 12 is between 3.5 inches and 4.5 inches. The rear portion 24 of the cavity 14 has a cylindrical shape and an outer surface 36 of each wrist support 32 of the plurality of wrist supports 32 is convexly arcuate between a pair of lateral sides 38 of the wrist support 32 such that the outer surface 36 of the wrist support 32 conforms to an inner surface 40 of the rear portion 24 of the cavity 14. A lace 42 is threaded through each one of a pair of lateral portions 44 of the body 12 in an alternating fashion such that the lace 42 is movable to draw the pair of lateral portions 44 toward each other to cinch the body 12 around the wrist 52.

In use, the hand 48, the wrist 52, and a portion of the forearm 54 are inserted into the cavity 14. The hand 48 grasps the grip 26 and at least one of the plurality of wrist supports 32 is positioned over the wrist 52 and in abutment with the dorsal side 50 of the hand 48 and the forearm 54. The lace 42 is drawn to cinch the body 12 around the wrist 52. The grip 26 facilitates positioning the hand 48 in an ergonomic position and absorbs impacts sustained to the hand 48. The plurality of wrist supports 32 maintains the hand 48 near a constant position with respect to the forearm 54 when an impact causes the hand 48 to dorsiflex.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
