Claims
- 1. In combination, an improved check-out counter and shopping cart cooperating therewith; said counter construction including an upper surface having an elongated slot therein, extending between upstream and downstream areas adjacent a longitudinal edge thereof; said cart including a wheeled frame element and a basket element supported by said frame element and including front, rear, and a pair of side walls; at least one of said side walls having a portion thereof arranged for substantially vertical sliding movement between open and closed positions; said cart being selectively positioned with said basket element overlying said upper surface of said counter, wherein said slidably mounted portion of said side wall in open position penetrates said slot for horizontal sliding movement therein.
- 2. The combination in accordance with claim 1, further characterized in said slidably mounted side wall portion including resilient means urging said portion to closed position, and latch means selectively holding said slidably mounted portion in open position against the action of said resilient means.
- 3. The combination in accordance with claim 1, further characterized in said walls of said basket element being upwardly outwardly flared, and pivotally mounted relative to said frame element to permit vertical nesting of the basket elements of stacked carts during storage.
