Claims
- 1. A rotating combination thrust plate and thrust shaft flange (10), said rotating combination comprising:
a generally cylindrical body portion (22) having a rotating base surface (24) and a lateral surface (23); a frustoconical body portion (29); and a bore (12) extending through said cylindrical and frustoconical body portions (22 and 29), wherein said bore (12) has a first bore section (14) and a second bore section (16), said second bore section (16) being adjacent said rotating base surface (24) and having a smaller diameter then said first bore section (14), and said first and second bore sections (14 and 16) meeting at a junction (18) defining a lip (21).
- 2. The combination of claim 1, wherein the bore (12) extends substantially parallel with said lateral surface (24).
- 3. The combination of claim 1, wherein the frustoconical body portion (29) has a frustoconical surface (28) which extends at an angle of about 230 degrees from said lateral surface (23).
- 4. The combination of claim 1, wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage a rolling element (26) of a thrust bearing assembly (40).
- 5. A combination thrust plate and thrust shaft flange (10), said combination comprising:
a generally cylindrical body (11) having a rotating base surface (24), and a lateral surface (23); and a bore (12) extending through said cylindrical body (22), wherein said bore (12) has a first bore section (14) and a second bore section (16), said second bore section (16) being adjacent said rotating base surface (24) and having a smaller diameter then said first bore section (14), and said first and second bore sections (14 and 16) meeting at a junction (18) defining a lip (21).
- 6. The combination of claim 5, wherein:
said cylindrical body (11) has a cylindrical body portion (22) and a frustoconical body portion (29); wherein said lateral surface (23) is on said cylindrical body portion (22) and said frustoconical body portion (29) has a frustoconical surface (28); and wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adjacent said cylindrical body portion (22).
- 7. The combination of claim 5, wherein said bore (12) extends substantially parallel with said lateral surface (23).
- 8. The combination of claim 6, wherein said bore (12) extends substantially parallel with said lateral surface (23).
- 9. The combination of claim 6, wherein said frustoconical surface (28) extends at an angle of about 230 degrees from said lateral surface (23).
- 10. The combination of claim 5 wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage a rolling element (26) of a thrust bearing assembly (40).
- 11. The combination of claim 6 wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage a rolling element (26) of a thrust bearing assembly (40).
- 12. A thrust bearing assembly (40) for countering axial thrust such as generated by a rotating shaft of an extruder, said assembly comprising:
a rotating flange plate combination (10) having a generally cylindrical body portion (22) with a rotating base surface (24) and a lateral surface (23), a frustoconical body portion (29), and a bore (12) extending through said cylindrical and frustoconical body portions (22 and 29), wherein said bore (12) has a first bore section (14) and a second bore section (16), said second bore section (16) being adjacent said rotating base surface (24) and having a smaller diameter then said first bore section (14), and said first and second bore sections (14 and 16) meeting at a junction (18) defining a lip (21); a stationary plate (32) having a generally cylindrical shape with a stationary bore (44) extending therethrough and a stationary base surface (33); and rolling elements (26) evenly interspersed between the rotating flange plate combination (10) and the stationary plate (32), and in contact with said rotating base surface (24) and said stationary base surface (33).
- 13. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, further comprising:
a bearing cage (46) for retaining said rolling elements (26) in position to assure free radial movement of said rotating flange plate combination (10).
- 14. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, wherein said bore (12) extends substantially parallel with said lateral surface (23).
- 15. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, wherein said frustoconical body portion (29) has a frustoconical surface (28) which extends at an angle of about 230 degrees from said lateral surface (23).
- 16. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26).
- 17. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12; wherein said stationary base surface (33) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26).
- 18. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, wherein said rolling elements (26) are taken from the group consisting of ball bearings and roller bearings.
- 19. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 12, wherein said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26); and
said stationary base surface (33) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26) opposite said rotating base surface (24).
- 20. The thrust bearing assembly (40) of claim 13, wherein
said rotating base surface (24) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26); and said stationary base surface (33) is adapted to engage said rolling elements (26) opposite said rotating base surface (24).
