Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to the field of weapon holsters. More specifically, the present invention relates to a combination weapon holster device primarily comprised of a holster body with a first opening, a second opening, and a divider wall in addition to a retention assembly within the holster body. The first opening of the holster body preferably receives a pistol. The second opening of the holster body preferably receives a stun gun. The retention assembly engages the pistol within the holster body when a stun gun is inserted into the body after a pistol. When a stun gun is holstered within the body, the retention assembly does not allow the pistol to be drawn from the body unless the stun gun is fully removed from the body or partially removed such that the retention assembly is disengaged. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices and methods of manufacture.

BACKGROUND

Law enforcement officers are constantly placed in highly stressful and dangerous situations while on the job. Because pistols and stun guns are similar in size and shape, a police officer may pull the wrong weapon from their duty belt during a deadly and/or hostile encounter. This can unfortunately lead to a suspect being accidently killed by a pistol, although the officer meant to only draw and fire their stun gun.

Therefore, there exists a long-felt need in the art for an improved weapon holster. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a combination weapon holster device that can serve as a holster for both a stun gun and a pistol. In addition, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a combination weapon holster device that can serve as a holster for both a stun gun and a pistol, wherein the device has a safety mechanism that does not allow a pistol to be mistakenly drawn when an officer intends to draw a stun gun instead.

The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a combination weapon holster device. The device is primarily comprised of a holster body with a first opening, a second opening, and a divider wall in addition to a retention assembly within the holster body. The first opening of the holster body preferably receives a pistol, and wherein the second opening of the holster body preferably receives a stun gun.

In this manner, the combination weapon holster device of the present invention accomplishes all of the foregoing objectives and provides an improved weapon holster. In doing so, the device provides a combination weapon holster device that can serve as a holster for both a stun gun and a pistol. Further, the retention assembly does not allow a pistol to be mistakenly drawn when an officer intends to draw a stun gun instead. Therefore, officer shootings resulting from mistakenly drawing a pistol instead of a stun gun can be eliminated.

SUMMARY

The following presents a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key/critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some general concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a combination weapon holster device. The device is primarily comprised of a holster body with a first opening, a second opening, and a divider wall in addition to a retention assembly within the holster body. The holster body may be manufactured from any firearm holster material known in the art and is further comprised of a first opening that receives a pistol and a second opening that receives a stun gun. The first opening and the second opening are separated by an internal divider wall.

The pistol and stun gun are further retained within the holster body via a retention assembly that prevents the pistol from being removed from the body until the stun gun has been fully or partially removed from the body such that the stun gun disengages the retention assembly. The retention assembly is further comprised of a sight post clip, a shaft, at least one spring, and at least one stun gun retention clip. The sight post clip receives both ends of a front sight post of a pistol such that the pistol cannot be removed from the body while the clip engages the front sight post. The clip is attached to the shaft, wherein the shaft travels through an opening in the divider wall. A spring on the shaft also attaches to a stun gun retention clip.

When a stun gun is placed within the second opening (after a pistol has first been placed in the first opening) the stun gun presses against the stun gun retention clip, which is shaped to match the contour of the stun gun. This pressure causes the clip to push the shaft (against the force of the spring) through the opening of the divider wall such that the sight post clip engages the front sight post of the pistol. Once the stun gun is fully or partially removed (enough such that the stun gun no longer contacts the clip), the shaft retracts partially into the divider wall such that the sight post clip disengages the front sight post of the pistol. In this manner, the pistol can then be removed from the first opening.

Accordingly, the combination weapon holster device of the present invention is particularly advantageous as it provides an improved weapon holster that serves as a holster for both a stun gun and a pistol. Further, the retention assembly does not allow a pistol to be mistakenly drawn when an officer intends to draw a stun gun instead. In this manner, the combination weapon holster device provides a novel solution to the problem of officer shootings resulting from an officer mistakenly drawing a pistol instead of a stun gun.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, certain illustrative aspects of the disclosed innovation are described herein in connection with the following description and the annexed drawings. These aspects are indicative, however, of but a few of the various ways in which the principles disclosed herein can be employed and are intended to include all such aspects and their equivalents. Other advantages and novel features will become apparent from the following detailed description when considered in conjunction with the drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The innovation is now described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding thereof. It may be evident, however, that the innovation can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate a description thereof. Various embodiments are discussed hereinafter. It should be noted that the figures are described only to facilitate the description of the embodiments. They are not intended as an exhaustive description of the invention and do not limit the scope of the invention. Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.

As noted above, there is a long-felt need in the art for an improved weapon holster.

The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is comprised of a combination weapon holster device primarily comprised of a holster body with a first opening, a second opening, and a divider wall in addition to a retention assembly within the holster body. The holster body may be manufactured from any firearm holster material known in the art and is further comprised of a first opening that receives a pistol and a second opening that receives a stun gun. The first opening and the second opening are separated by an internal divider wall.

The pistol and stun gun are further retained within the holster body via a retention assembly. The retention assembly prevents the pistol from being removed from the body until the stun gun has been fully or partially removed from the body, such that the stun gun disengages the retention assembly. The retention assembly is further comprised of a sight post clip, a shaft, at least one spring, and at least one stun gun retention clip. The sight post clip receives both ends of a front sight post of a pistol in a manner wherein the pistol cannot be removed from the body while the clip engages the front sight post.

Referring initially to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one potential embodiment of a combination weapon holster device 100 of the present invention while a pistol 10 and a stun gun 20 are within the holster body 110 and wherein the retention assembly 120 is engaged in accordance with the disclosed architecture. The device 100 is primarily comprised of a holster body 110 with a first opening 112, a second opening 114, and a divider wall 116 in addition to a retention assembly 120 within the holster body 110. In various embodiments, the holster body 110 may be manufactured from any firearm holster material known in the art such as, but not limited to: leather, plastic, thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride, etc. The holster body 110 may be rigid or may be moldable/deformable around a pistol 10 and/or stun gun 20 placed within the holster body 110. The holster body 110 is further comprised of a first opening 112. The first opening 112 receives a pistol 10, wherein the opening 112 may be shaped and sized to receive any pistol 10 known in the art. The body 110 is further comprised of a second opening 114. The second opening 114 receives a stun gun 20, wherein the opening 114 may be shaped and sized to receive any stun gun 20 known in the art. The first opening 112 and the second opening 114 are separated by an internal divider wall 116 that is preferably manufactured from a rigid material such as, but not limited to, plastic (or the same material as the body 110). The body 110 may further have at least one retention strap 120 or other similar retention feature of the like that further secures a pistol 10 and/or a stun gun 20 within each opening 112,114.

The pistol 10 and stun gun 20 are further retained within the holster body 110 via a retention assembly 120. The retention assembly 120 functions such that the pistol 10 cannot be removed from the body 110 until the stun gun 20 has been fully or partially removed from the body 110, such that the stun gun 20 disengages the assembly 120, as seen in FIG. 2. The retention assembly 120 is further comprised of a sight post clip 122, a shaft 124, at least one spring 126, and at least one stun gun retention clip 128. The sight post clip 122 is shaped such that it can receive both ends 14 of a front sight post 12 of a pistol 10. Due to the shape of the clip 122, the pistol 10 cannot be removed from the body 110 while the clip 122 engages the front sight post 12, as the front sight post 12 will hit the clip 122 if a user attempts to remove the pistol 10 from the body 110. The clip 122 is attached to the shaft 124, wherein the shaft 124 travels through an opening 118 in the divider wall 116. A spring 126 may be located on the shaft 124. The shaft 124 also attaches to a stun gun retention clip 128.

When a stun gun 20 is placed within the second opening 114 (after a pistol 10 has first been placed in the first opening 112) the stun gun 20 presses against the stun gun retention clip 128, which is shaped to match the contour of the stun gun 20. This pressure causes the clip 128 to push the shaft 124 (against the force of the spring 126) through the opening 118 of the divider wall 116 such that the sight post clip 122 engages the front sight post 12 of the pistol 10, as seen in FIG. 1. Once the stun gun 20 is fully or partially removed (enough such that the stun gun 20 no longer contacts the clip 128), the shaft 124 retracts partially into the divider wall 116 such that the sight post clip 122 disengages the front sight post 12 of the pistol 10. In this manner, the pistol 10 can then be removed from the first opening 112, as seen in FIG. 3.

Accordingly, the retention assembly 120 ensures that the pistol 10 cannot be drawn from the body 110 until the stun gun 20 has been fully or partially removed from the body 110. This deliberate action requirement of removing the stun gun 20 first before removing the pistol 10 ensures that an officer cannot mistakenly remove the pistol 10 first while thinking they are actually removing the stun gun 20. This in turns eliminates the potential for accidental pistol shootings that are caused by an officer mistakenly drawing a pistol 10 instead of a stun gun 20. It should be noted that device 100 also has a clip assembly of any type known in the art that allows the device 100 to attach to a belt.

FIG. 4 illustrates a flow chart of one potential method 200 of using one potential embodiment of a combination weapon holster device 100 of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. The present invention is also comprised of a method 200 of using the device 100. First, a pistol 10 is inserted into the holster body 110 via the first opening 112 [Step 202]. Then, a stun gun 20 is inserted into the second opening 114 of the holster body 110 [Step 204]. Once inside the holster body 110, the stun gun 20 contacts the stun gun retention clip 128 which causes the sight post clip 122 to engage the front sight post 12 of the pistol 10 such that the pistol 10 cannot be removed from the body 110. To remove the pistol 10, a user then partially or fully removes the stun gun 20 from the body 110 such that the stun gun 20 disengages the stun gun retention clip 128 [Step 206]. A user may then remove the pistol 10 from the body 110 [Step 208].
