Claims
- 1. A grate assembly for use in a stove fueled by biomass pellets, the grate assembly comprising:
- a plurality of elongate rods positioned in a parallel arrangement, the plurality of rods comprising subsets of two adjacent rods, the distance between the rods of a first subset being unequal to the distance between rods of a second subset adjacent to the first subset, the distance between the rods of the first subset and the rods of the second subset being sufficient to prevent unburned biomass pellets from falling between adjacent rods.
- 2. The grate assembly of claim 1, further comprising a first wall and a second wall, the plurality of rods extending transverse between the first wall and the second wall.
- 3. The grate assembly of claim 2, wherein the elongate rods include a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end of the rods being attached to the first wall.
- 4. The grate assembly of claim 3, wherein the second end of the rods are carried by the second wall.
- 5. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of rods includes a central rod, the distance between adjacent rods decreasing as the rods become further removed from the central rod.
- 6. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of rods includes two central rods, the distance between adjacent rods decreasing as the rods become further removed from the central rods.
- 7. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the rods are solid.
- 8. The grate assembly of claim 7, wherein the rods comprise stainless steel.
- 9. The grate assembly of claim 7, wherein the first wall and the second wall each include a first end and a second end, the grate assembly further comprising first and second endwalls extending transverse between the first wall and the second wall at their first and second ends.
- 10. The grate assembly of claim 9, wherein the rods are parallel to the first and second endwalls.
- 11. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the rods have a circular cross-section.
- 12. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the rods have a non-circular cross-section.
- 13. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein the distance between adjacent rods ranges between about 0.15 to 0.25 inches.
- 14. The grate assembly of claim 1, wherein slots are defined between adjacent rods and the number of slots and their width provides an open area through the grate of approximately 50 to 70 percent of the overall surface area of the grate if it were free of slots.
