Claims
- 1. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers for use in reducing cross-patient contamination from use of a pulse oximeter probe, comprising:(a) a plurality of digit cover; each of said covers in flattened tubular shape and made of flexible material which is impervious to infectious agents and transparent to light passage; each of said covers including an open end leading into a tubular interior; each of said covers expandable from said flattened tubular shape to an un-flattened tubular shape sized for fitting over a distal end of a human digit to envelop a portion of the digit to serve as an infectious agent barrier; each of the digit covers includes a front panel and a back panel; each of the front panels having a terminal edge adjacent the open end of the cover; the back panels each having an extending portion extending beyond the terminal edge of the front panel; said digit covers stacked one upon the other with the extending portions of the back panels in stacked alignment with one another; (b) a dispensing package having an exterior material shell defining an interior area containing said plurality of digit covers in said flattened tubular shape with the extending portion of each of the back panels secured relatively stationary to said package; said package including openable means for allowing access to said interior area and to said digit covers for removal of the digit covers from said package.
- 2. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 1 wherein the back panel of each of the digit covers includes a tearable area for allowing the tearing of the digit covers individually from securement to said package.
- 3. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 2 wherein said openable means includes an opening through the exterior material shell of said package into said interior area; and further including a flap hingedly connected along a side of the flap to a portion of the exterior shell of said package to allow manual moving said flap from a position of closing said opening, to an open position of exposing said opening and exposing through said opening at least a portion of one of the digit covers, the exposed portion of the digit cover exposed at least in the front panel terminal edge area.
- 4. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 3 wherein the portion of the back panel of each of the digit covers is secured stationary relative to said package by way of a mechanical fastener.
- 5. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 4 wherein said package is primarily made of paper.
- 6. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 4 wherein each of the digit covers is primarily made of plastics.
- 7. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 6 wherein said flap includes a hole therethrough for allowing the hanging of the dispensing package with the flap in the open position with a supporting hook within said hole.
- 8. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 7 wherein each of the digit covers is sized to fit loosely over a single human digit.
- 9. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 8 wherein said mechanical fastener is a staple passing through the stacked extending portions of the back panels of the digits covers and into said package.
- 10. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 9 wherein said package is made of a single piece of paper material folded and secured to define said package, and said flap is in-part defined by perforations allowing tearing said flap from surrounding material of said package and leaving said flap attached at the hinged connection, the hinged connection provided by flexibility in the paper left connecting between the flap and the exterior shell of the package.
- 11. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 10 wherein said package has external dimensions under 8 inches long, under 5 inches wide, and under 2 inches thick, so as to be sufficiently small to allow the ready transportation thereof in a garment pocket.
- 12. A dispensing package containing removable digit covers, the digit covers structured to serve as infectious agent barriers when removed from said package and located between a human digit and a light emitting medical probe attachable to a human digit, comprising:(a) a plurality of digit covers each in a flattened stored condition; each of said covers in flattened tubular shape and made of flexible material which is impervious to infectious agents and transparent to light passage of light emitted by a medical probe attachable to a human digit; each of said covers including an open end leading to a tubular interior; each of said covers expandable from said flattened stored condition to an un-flattened use condition sized and shaped for fitting over a distal end of a human digit for serving as an infectious agent barrier located, when in use, between a human digit and a light emitting medical probe; each of the digit covers includes a front panel and a back panel; each of the front panels having a terminal edge adjacent the open end of the cover: the back panels each having an extending portion extending beyond the terminal edge of the front panel; said digit covers stacked one upon the other with the extending portions of the back panels in stacked alignment with one another, the extending portion of each of the back panels secured relatively stationary to (b) a dispensing package having an exterior surface defining an interior area containing said plurality of digit covers, the digit covers stacked one upon the other in said flattened stored condition; said package including openable means for allowing access to said digit covers for removal of the digit covers, one of the digit covers at a time from said packages the back panel of each of the digit covers including a dependably tearable area for allowing the tearing of the digit covers individually from securement to said dispensing package.
- 13. A dispensing package containing removable digit covers in accordance with claim 12 wherein said package is primarily made of a single piece of folded paper, and said digit covers are primarily made of plastics; and said package has external dimensions sufficiently small to readily fit into a garment pocket.
- 14. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers for use in reducing cross-patient contamination from use of a pulse oximeter probe, comprising:(a) a plurality of digit covers; each of said covers in flattened tubular shape and made of flexible material which is impervious to infectious agents and transparent to light passage; each of said covers including an open end leading into a tubular interior; each of said covers expandable from said flattened tubular shape to an un-flattened tubular shape sized for fitting over a distal end of a human digit to envelop a portion of the digit to serve as an infectious agent barrier; (b) a dispensing package having an exterior material shell defining an interior area containing said plurality of digit covers in said flattened tubular shape; said package including openable means for allowing access to said interior area and to said-digit covers for removal of the digit covers from said package; said openable means includes an opening through the exterior material shell of said package into said interior area; and further including a flap hingedly connected along a side of the flap to a portion of the exterior shell of said package to allow manual moving said flap from a position of closing said opening, to an open position of exposing said opening and exposing through said opening at least a portion of one of the digit covers; said package having external dimensions sufficiently small to readily fit into a garment pocket.
- 15. A combination dispensing package containing digit covers in accordance with claim 14 wherein said package is made primarily of a single piece of paper material folded and secured to define said package, and said flap is in-part defined by perforations allowing tearing said flap from surrounding material of said package and leaving said flap hingedly connected, the hinged connection provided by flexibility in the paper left connecting between the flap and the exterior shell of the package;a hole through said flap for allowing hanging of the dispensing package with the flap in the open position with a supporting hook within said hole.
