Claims
- 1. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor of the type having a rotating commutator providing a commutation contact surface, said brush comprising a body of conductive material having an end face on said body interfacing with the commutation contact surface of the commutator; said end face having a leading edge and trailing edge with respect to the rotating commutator, a first surface formed thereon extending from the leading edge of the end face and a second surface formed thereon extending from the trailing edge of the end face; said first and second surfaces intersecting at a line of intersection for contacting the commutation contact surface of the commutator, said line of intersection being displaced away from a central region of the end face of said brush toward the leading edge of said brush, said second surface being offset from said first surface at an angle of less than about 25 degrees.
- 2. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 1, wherein said first and second surfaces each comprise flat planar surfaces.
- 3. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 2, wherein said second flat planar surface is offset from said first planar surface at an angle ranging from 10 to 15 degrees.
- 4. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 1, wherein said first and second surfaces each comprise arcuate surfaces.
- 5. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 4, wherein said second arcuate surface is offset from said first arcuate surface at an angle ranging from 10 to 15 degrees.
- 6. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 1, wherein at least one of said first and second surfaces comprises a flat planar surface.
- 7. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 1, wherein at least one of said first and second surfaces comprises an arcuate surface.
- 8. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 6, wherein said second surface is offset from said first surface at an angle of ranging from 10 to 15 degrees.
- 9. A brush for use in a direct current electric motor as recited in claim 7, wherein said second surface is offset from said first surface at an angle ranging from 10 to 15 degrees.
