Claims
- 1. A document feeder comprising:
- a reading section for scanning an original document while the original document is being transferred at a predetermined speed;
- a feeding stacker for supplying the original document to the reading section;
- a transfer roller having a transfer path therearound, said transfer roller guiding the original document transferred from the feeding stacker to the reading section;
- first and second rollers located respectively in upstream and down stream sides of the transfer path for transferring the original document from the feeding stacker to the reading section;
- sensing means located in the transfer path between the first and second rollers for detecting a front edge of the original document; and
- driving means connected to the transfer roller, said driving means controlling a rotational speed of the transfer roller based on a detecting signal of the sensing means.
- 2. A document feeder according to claim 1, wherein said first roller is formed of a pair of rollers urging toward each other to form register rollers situated parallel to the transfer roller.
- 3. A document feeder according to claim 1, wherein said second roller is a follower urged against the transfer roller to be rotated therewith.
- 4. A document feeder according to claim 1, wherein said driving means controls the rotational speed of the transfer roller based on the detecting signal so that a reading speed of the original document passing through the reading section is lowered relative to a feeding speed transferring the front edge of the original document from the first roller to the second roller.
- 5. A document feeder according to claim 4, wherein said driving means controls the rotational speed of the transfer roller to one of speeds predetermined according to a copy ratio of the original document.
- 6. A document feeder according to claim 1, wherein said driving means has means to change the rotational speed of the transfer roller after a predetermined period of time upon receiving the detecting signal from the sensing means.
- 7. A document feeder according to claim 1, wherein said driving means operates the transfer roller such that the front edge of the original document is transferred at a predetermined speed from the first roller to the second roller and stops on a basis of receiving the detecting signal from the sensing means; and then the original document is moved to pass the reading section at a predetermined speed.
- 8. A document feeder according to claim 1, further comprising a switchback path extending from the transfer path for receiving the original document after the original document is read, said original document reversing a transfer direction in the switchback path.
- 9. A document feeder according to claim 1, further comprising an ejecting stacker for receiving the original document after the original document passes through the reading section, and a switchback path extending from the transfer path for receiving the original document after the original document is read, said original document reversing a transfer direction in the switchback path and being sent to the ejecting stacker, wherein the switchback path, the ejecting stacker and the feeding stacker are disposed vertically in this order on a platen.
