Claims
- 1. A magnifying light apparatus for use with a hand-held computer (12) housing a video screen (24), such apparatus comprising a body (14) provided with attachment means (38,40) by which it is adapted to be releasably mounted to the computer, and a magnifying device comprising a frame (30) carried by said body (14) and a magnifying lens (28) mounted in said frame (30) so as to be positioned spaced from said video screen (24) to facilitate viewing of a magnified image of said video screen when said magnifier apparatus is mounted to said computer (12), characterized in that the means (38,40) for releasably mounting the body to the computer is adapted to engage the computer (12) in a releasable manner, in that the frame (30) is pivotally mounted so as to be foldable in a storage position against the body (14), and in that illumination means are provided for illumination of the video screen (24).
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the illumination means comprises two light bulbs mounted for illumination of the video screen from opposite sides thereof.
- 3. Apparatus according to claim 15 wherein the illumination means is mounted in said body (14), said body having a face and bottom surface and having a plurality of side panels (36) which define an open video viewing space (46) within the body (14), the video viewing space (46) being adapted to conform generally to the computer video screen (24) to be lighted; said illumination means comprising lighting means to light up one or more of the side panels (36) to provide light to the computer video screen (24).
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 3, wherein a cover (20) is provided having one end pivotally secured to said one end of the body (14) whereby the cover (20) is adapted to move between a closed, compact position closely adjacent to and over the video viewing space (46) of the body (14) and an open position extending generally perpendicularly outwardly from said one end of the body (14) from the face surface of the body; and the frame (30) at one end is pivotally mounted to the other end of the cover (20), the frame (30) with the magnifying lens (28) being adapted to move between a compact, stored position with the frame (30) and generally parallel to the plane of the cover (20) and a magnifying, use position extending generally perpendicularly outwardly from the other end of the cover (20) and over the video screen (20) and the video viewing space (46) of the body (14) to magnify the information on the video screen.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the frame (30) at the other end includes an upwardly raised handle (32) to permit user pivotally to move the frame (30) and the magnifying lens (28) from the compact to the extending positions.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the frame (30) includes an indent means to retain the frame (30) and magnifying lens (28) in an extended, magnifying use position which indent means may be overcome by the user to restore the frame (30) and magnifier lens (28) to the compact storage position.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the illumination means is adapted to be energized from a battery power source.
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the body (14) comprises a battery compartment (16) adapted to receive one or more batteries as a power source; an electrical switch (26) to control the power from the power source; and electrical circuitry means to connect the illumination means; the switch (26), the power source and the battery compartment (16).
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 8 which includes one or more batteries positioned in the battery compartment (16).
- 10. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the releasable mounting means comprise projections (38,40) on said body (14) which are adapted to snap-fit into recesses (42,44) in the computer (12).
- 11. Apparatus according to claim 10 wherein the projections comprise raised ridges (38,40) on the body, which ridges are adapted to be placed in a snap-in releasable fashion into matching grooves (42,44) on the computer which is a hand-held computer game having a video display.
- 12. A hand-held computer (12) having a video screen (24) for viewing by a user and which includes releasably attached thereto a combined light and magnifier apparatus (10) as defined in claim 1.
- 13. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the illumination means includes side panels (48) in front of the illumination means to provide indirect light onto the open spaces (46) of the apparatus.
- 14. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the body (14) includes the illumination means and the body (14) is placed adjacent the surface of the computer (12) and about the video screen (24).
- 15. Apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the frame (30) and magnifying lens (28) are spaced apart from and above the illumination means.
- 16. Apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the illumination means comprises two light bulbs centrally and opposingly mounted on either side of the body (14) for illumination of the video screen (24) from opposite sides thereof.
- 17. Apparatus according to claim 1 which includes a cover (20), one end of which is pivotally secured to the body (14), and the other end to the frame (30), the apparatus adopted to move between:
- a) a magnifying-illumination and magnifying use position with the magnifying lens (28) mounted in the frame (30) extending above and generally parallel to the video screen (24), and the illumination means adjacent the surface of the computer (12) and with the cover extending generally perpendicular from the video screen (24); and
- b) a non-use position with the magnifying lens (28) and frame (30) within the cover (20) and the cover (20) extending over the body (14) and covering the video screen (24).
