Claims
- 1. A method for assembling an internal combustion engine, comprising the steps of:
- providing a piston having a bottom, a connecting rod pin, a piston thrust pad, a connecting rod having an end and a flange, and a piston guide;
- placing the connecting rod pin in the bottom of the piston;
- placing the piston thrust pad on the bottom of the piston;
- placing the end of the connecting rod on the pin;
- placing the piston guide over the flange on the connecting rod; and
- fastening the piston guide to the bottom of the piston.
- 2. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a first half of a block, the first half of the block defining a first half of a cylinder;
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing at least one piston guide post;
- placing the at least one piston guide post in the first half of the block;
- placing the piston in the first half of the cylinder defined by the first half of the block;
- engaging the piston guide with the at least one piston guide post; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 3. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a first half of a block, the first half of the block defining a first half of a cylinder;
- providing at least one piston guide post;
- placing the at least one piston guide post in the first half of the block;
- placing the piston in the first half of the cylinder defined by the first half of the block; and
- engaging the piston guide with the at least one piston guide post.
- 4. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing a crank shaft having a crank pin;
- placing the crank shaft in the first half of the block;
- connecting an other end of the connecting rod on the crank pin; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 5. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing a cooling pump;
- placing the cooling pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 6. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing a scavenger pump;
- placing the scavenger pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 7. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing a pressure pump;
- placing the pressure pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 8. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder,
- providing a cooling pump, a scavenger pump, and a pressure pump;
- placing the cooling pump, the scavenger pump, and the pressure pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 9. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder;
- providing a lubricating and cooling system;
- placing the lubricating and cooling system in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 10. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 3, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second half of a cylinder,
- providing a cylinder head;
- placing the cylinder head in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 11. A method for assembling an internal combustion engine, comprising the steps of:
- providing a first half of a block, the first half of the block defining a first plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a plurality of pistons, each piston having a connecting rod with an end;
- providing a crank shaft having crank pin;
- placing the crank shaft in the first half of the block;
- placing ones of the plurality of pistons in the ones of the plurality of half cylinders; and
- connecting each of the connecting rod ends to the crank pin.
- 12. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a cooling pump;
- placing the cooling pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 13. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a scavenger pump;
- placing the scavenger pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 14. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a pressure pump;
- placing the pressure pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 15. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a cooling pump, a scavenger pump, and a pressure pump;
- placing the cooling pump, the scavenger pump, and the pressure pump in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 16. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a lubricating and cooling system;
- placing the lubricating and cooling system in the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 17. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a lubricating and cooling system;
- providing a plurality of cylinder heads;
- placing the lubricating and cooling system in the first half of the block;
- placing ones of the plurality of cylinder heads in ones of the plurality of cylinders of the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block.
- 18. A method for assembling an internal combustion engine comprising the steps of:
- providing a plurality engine modules, each module assembled comprising the steps of:
- providing a first half of a block, the first half of the block defining a first plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a second half of a block, the second half of the block defining a second plurality of half cylinders;
- providing a plurality of pistons, each piston having a connecting rod with an end;
- providing a crank shaft having crank pin;
- providing a plurality of cylinder heads;
- placing the crank shaft in the first half of the block;
- placing ones of the plurality of pistons in the ones of the plurality of half cylinders;
- connecting each of the connecting rod ends to the crank pin;
- placing ones of the plurality of cylinder heads in ones of the plurality of cylinders of the first half of the block; and
- fastening the second half of the block with the first half of the block; and
- connecting the plurality of engine modules wherein each crank shaft of each module connects to at least one crank shaft of at least one other of the plurality of modules.
- 19. The method for assembling an internal combustion engine of claim 18, further comprising the steps of:
- providing a plurality engine modules, each module assembled further comprising the steps of:
- providing a lubricating and cooling system; and
- placing the lubricating and cooling system in the first half of the block.
