- a wire coil disposed in inductive relationship with said magnetic circuit and oriented to generate a voltage pulse in response to changes in the reluctance of the magnetic circuit produced by the movement of the keeper from non-bridging to bridging relationship with said pair of spaced pole pieces.
- 2. The electric pulse generator of claim 1 wherein said spring is a leaf spring that is fastened to and overlies the hinged portions of the keeper and said one pole piece.
- 3. The electric pulse generator of claim 1 wherein:
- said pole pieces extend beyond the permanent magnet, and
- the wire coil is located on a protruding portion of one of said pole pieces and is disposed in encircling relationship therewith.
- 4. The electric pulse generator of claim 1 wherein said latch means comprises a second permanent magnet that is disposed adjacent the free end of the keeper at a location such that, when contacted by the keeper, it exerts a magnetic pull on said keeper sufficient to hold the keeper in spaced non-bridging position relative to the pole pieces.
- 5. The electric pulse generator of claim 1 wherein;
- a rotatable cam means is disposed proximate the free end of said keeper,
- a cam-follower is located on the free end of the keeper and arranged to engage said cam means when the keeper is in bridging relationship with said pole pieces, and
- said cam means is so configured that the keeper is swung away from bridging relationship with the pole pieces and into engagement with the latch means by the cam means when said cam means is rotated.
- 6. A mechanically-powered generator for producing a pulse of electric energy, said generator comprising the combination of;
- magnetic circuit means consisting essentially of a pair of pole pieces and a single permanent magnet that is located between said pole pieces and is of such size that the pole pieces extend beyond the magnet in the same general direction so that portions of said pole pieces are disposed in spaced-apart relationship adjacent one another,
- means for rapidly altering the reluctance of said magnetic circuit means comprising a magnetic member that is movably coupled to said magnetic circuit means and is swingable from a cocked position along a prescribed path which places said member in substantially bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of said pole pieces for a sufficient period of time to enable the movement of the magnetic member along said path to produce a rapid change in the distribution of the flux in the magnetic circuit means,
- electrical conductor means disposed in inductive ralationship with said magnetic circuit means and oriented to generate a pulse of electrical energy in response to changes in the reluctance of the magnetic circuit means produced by the movement of the magnetic member along said prescribed path,
- means for swinging said magnetic member along said prescribed path comprising a spring that is coupled to said magnetic member in a manner such that the spring is in tension when said swingable magnetic member is located at said cocked position, and
- means for maintaining said spring in tension and the generator in actuable condition comprising a latch means for engaging and releasably holding the magnetic member at said cocked position against the force exerted on said member by the tensioned spring.
- 7. The electric-pulse generator of claim 6 wherein;
- said magnetic member is disposed in substantially bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces when the magnetic member is located at said cocked position, and
- said magnetic member is swung away from the spaced-apart portions of said pole pieces by the action of the tensioned spring when the generator is tripped and the magnetic member is released by said latch means.
- 8. The electric-pulse generator of claim 6 wherein;
- said magnetic member is disposed in proximate but non-bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces when the magnetic member is located at said cocked position, and
- said magnetic member is swung toward and into substantially bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of said pole pieces by the action of the tensioned spring when the generator is tripped and the magnetic member is released by said latch means.
- 9. The electric-pulse generator of claim 6 wherein;
- said magnetic member is disposed in proximate but non-bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces when the magnetic member is located at said cocked position, and
- said magnetic member is swung toward the spaced-apart portions of said pole pieces by the action of the tensioned spring, when the generator is tripped and the magnetic member is released by said latch means, along a path such that said magnetic member slides onto the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces in substantially bridging relationship therewith.
- 10. The electric-pulse generator of claim 6 wherein;
- said magnetic member is disposed in proximate but non-bridging relationship with the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces when the magnetic member is located at said cocked position, and
- said magnetic member is swung toward the spaced-apart potions of said pole pieces by the action of the tensioned spring, when the generator is tripped and the magnetic member is released by said latch means, along a path such that the magnetic member moves past the spaced-apart portions of the pole pieces without physically contacting them.
