Claims
- 1. A clamping apparatus for holding elements comprising:
a first spring member, the first spring member including a rigid portion that applies the majority of force to the elements; a second spring member, the second spring member attached to the first spring member and being more flexible than the first spring member, the second spring member accommodating dimensional variations in elements held by the clamping member.
- 2. The clamping apparatus of claim I wherein the second spring member includes a plurality of flexible structures for holding elements.
- 3. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first spring element surrounds the second spring member.
- 4. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first spring element has a notch therein.
- 5. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first spring element has an opening therein, the opening for handling the spring.
- 6. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first spring element has at least one slit therein, the dimension of the at least one slit determining the spring force produced by the first spring element.
- 7. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first spring element has a plurality of slits therein, the plurality of slits determining the spring force produced by the first spring element.
- 8. The clamping apparatus of claim I wherein the first spring element is rectangular, the second spring element attached to one side of the rectangle of the first spring element.
- 9. The clamping apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second spring element includes a plurality of elongated openings for holding a plurality of elongated elements.
- 10. The clamping apparatus of claim 9 wherein the second spring element includes a plurality of elongated bars for contacting a plurality of elements.
- 11. The clamping apparatus of claim 9 wherein the second spring element includes a plurality of elongated bars for contacting a plurality of elements, at least one of the elongated bars including a rounded feature for contacting an element.
- 12. The clamping apparatus of claim 9 wherein the second spring element includes a plurality of elongated bars for contacting a plurality of elements, at least one of the elongated bars contacting a first element on one side and contacting a second element on the other side, one of the sides of the elongated element including at least two rounded features for contacting one of the first element or the second element.
- 13. A method for clamping elements comprising the steps of:
holding at least one element with at least one flexible bar; attaching the flexible bar to a rigid frame, the at least one flexible bar and a portion of the rigid frame holding the at least one element, the rigid frame producing a majority of the force for holding the at least one element.
- 14. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of dimensioning the flexible bar to accommodate variations in dimensions associated with the at least one element.
- 15. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of placing at least one slit in the rigid frame to adjust the amount of force applied to clamp the at least one element.
- 16. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of placing at a plurality of slits in the rigid frame to adjust the amount of force applied to clamp the at least one element.
- 17. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of adding a second flexible bar for holding a second element, the second flexible bar spaced away from the first flexible bar so as to accommodate the dimension of a second element, the first flexible bar contacting a first element on one side and a second element on the other side.
- 18. A clamping apparatus comprising:
a flexible portion for holding an element and accommodating differences in dimension of the element; and a rigid means attached to the flexible portion, the rigid means producing a force to hold the element.
- 19. The clamping apparatus of claim 18 wherein the flexible element is an elongated bar spaced from the rigid means.
- 20. The clamping apparatus of claim 18 wherein the rigid means is a rectangular frame having a first opening therein, the first opening dimensioned to surround the flexible member, a connecting portion for connecting the flexible member to the rigid frame, and a second opening formed by spacing the flexible member from the rigid frame.
- 21. The clamping member of claim 20 wherein the flexible member includes a third opening on the other side of the flexible member.
- 22. The clamping apparatus of claim 18 wherein the rigid means includes at least one slit therein, the dimensions of the slit being varied to vary the amount of force applied by the rigid means.
- 23. The clamping apparatus of claim 18 wherein the rigid means includes plurality of slits therein, the dimensions of the plurality of slits being varied to vary the amount of force applied by the rigid means.
