Claims
- 1. A composite extrusion, comprising:
(a) a stiffening member of a first rigidity; (b) a body connected to the stiffening member, the body formed of a first polymeric material having a lesser rigidity than the stiffening member; and (c) a contact layer on a portion of the body, the contact layer formed of a second polymeric material having a second melting temperature and a third polymeric material having a third melting temperature, the second melting temperature being less than the third melting temperature and the second and the third polymeric materials being different than the first polymeric material.
- 2. The composite extrusion of claim 1, wherein the stiffening member includes a metal carrier.
- 3. A composite extrusion, comprising:
(a) a stiffening member of a first polymeric material; (b) a main body connected to the stiffening member and formed of a second polymeric material softer than the first polymeric material; (c) a contact layer on a portion of the main body, the contact layer formed of a third polymeric material having a third melting point and a fourth polymeric material having a fourth melting point, the third melting point being higher than the fourth melting point and the third polymeric material and the fourth polymeric material being different than the second polymeric material.
- 4. The composite extrusion of claim 3, wherein the third polymeric material and the fourth polymeric material are thermosetting.
- 5. The composite extrusion of claim 3, wherein the third polymeric material and the fourth polymeric material are thermoplastic.
- 6. The composite extrusion of claim 3, wherein the layer is in the form of a bulb.
- 7. A composite extrusion, comprising:
(a) a base formed of a hard polymeric material; (b) a body connected to the base and comprising a soft polymeric material; (c) a contacting layer disposed on a portion of the body, the contacting layer comprising two polymeric materials having different melting points including a first polymeric material having a low melting point and a second polymeric material having a high melting point.
- 8. The composite extrusion of claim 7, wherein the hard polymeric material is a thermoplastic.
- 9. The composite extrusion of claim 7, wherein the soft polymeric material is thermosetting.
- 10. A composite extrusion, comprising:
(a) a body including a first polymeric material; and (b) a contacting layer on a portion of the body, the contacting layer formed of a second polymeric material of a second melting temperature and a third polymeric material of a third different melting temperature.
- 11. The composite extrusion of claim 10, where the first polymeric material is a thermosetting material.
- 12. The composite extrusion of claim 10, wherein the second polymeric material and the third polymeric material are thermoplastic.
- 13. The composite extrusion of claim 10 further comprising a stiffening member connected to the body.
- 14. The composite extrusion of claim 13, where the stiffening member is thermoplastic.
- 15. The composite extrusion of claim 13, where the stiffening member is a metal carrier.
- 16. The composite extrusion of claim 10, wherein the second polymeric material and the third polymeric material are thermoplastic elastomers.
- 17. A composite extrusion, comprising:
(a) a thermoplastic reinforcing member; (b) a thermosetting body on the reinforcing member; and (c) a thermoplastic contact layer on at least a portion of the body.
- 18. The composite extrusion of claim 17, wherein the body substantially encompasses the reinforcing member.
