Claims
- 1. A rappelling glove comprising:
a main body portion comprising a palm portion that at least approximates the size and shape of a palm portion of a hand, and an opening at the base of the glove that is adapted to have a hand inserted therethrough into the interior of the glove; finger portions, comprising finger and thumb elements, extending away from the main body portion, wherein the length of at least one finger portion is shorter than the length of a finger that is adapted to be contained within that finger portion; an overlay strip disposed on a palm side of said glove and positioned over said palm portion and over a base of said thumb element, wherein said overlay strip is made of a material that is adapted to withstand substantial abrasion by being in sliding contact with a rappelling rope and is of a size such that when the gloved hand is holding a rappelling rope, at least a majority portion of said rappelling rope contacts said overlay strip; padding disposed in at least a plurality of substantially discrete pouches transverse to said palm portion; wherein said discrete pouches containing said padding comprise said overlay strip attached to said palm portion along a plurality of areas that are transverse to said palm portion a flap extending between a distal end of said overlay strip and a location between the proximal and distal ends of said finger portions; and elastic means, disposed between the base of said thumb element and said opening, adapted to draw said main body toward said opening when said glove is being worn.
- 2. A glove as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a back portion.
- 3. A glove as claimed in claim 2 wherein at least a part of back portion comprises elastic material.
- 4. A glove as claimed in claim 1 wherein said padding is substantially permanently disposed in said discrete transverse areas transverse to said palm by means of said overlay strip being substantially permanently attached to said palm portion.
- 5. A composite glove structure comprising:
a first glove, comprising a woven, knitted or non-woven textile fabric, as an inner portion of said composite glove structure, and a second glove, overlaying at least a portion of said first glove, as an outer portion of said composite glove structure, wherein said first and second gloves comprise first and second openings, respectively, at proximal ends thereof adapted to permit said second glove to overly said first glove and to permit a wearer to don said glove(s) wherein said first glove comprises:
a first main body portion comprising a first palm portion, first digit portions, comprising a first thumb and at least one first finger element, attached, at a base of each first digit portion, to said first palm portion and extending away from said first palm portion, and a first back portion; a first elastic means disposed at between the base of said first thumb element and said first opening in a position and orientation adapted to cause said first main body and said first digit portions to be drawn toward a wrist of a wearer, and at least one cut ring circumscribing at least a part of a textile fabric portion of at least one of said first digit portions and located intermediate the proximal and distal end of said first digit portion(s); wherein at least the cut ring that is disposed closest to said proximal end of said first digit portion(s) is so constructed that it joins fibers of said textile fabric portion together so as to prevent substantial unraveling of said textile fabric portion; wherein at least a portion of said textile fabric portion of said first digit portion(s) is cuttable at a location between said at least one cut ring and a distal end of said first digit portion, without causing substantial unraveling of a fabric portion of said cut first digit portion further toward said first palm portion than said cut ring that is disposed closest to said first palm portion; wherein cutting of at least a portion of said cut ring distal from said first main body portion enables uncovering of a distal portion of a wearer's digit that would otherwise be within said first digit portion from said first glove; wherein said second glove comprises, at least in part, an antiballistic fabric material, and comprises:
a second main body portion comprising a second palm portion, second digit portions, comprising a second thumb element and at least one second finger element, extending away from said second palm portion an abrasion resistant overlay strip disposed over said second palm portion, and disposed over at least intersections of second thumb and second finger elements with said second palm portion, wherein said overlay strip is attached to said second palm portion along a plurality of spaced apart transverse areas that define a plurality of pouches disposed transverse to said second palm portion; second padding material disposed in at least one of said plural transverse pouches between said second palm portion and said overlay strip; second elastic means disposed proximate to an area between said second opening and said the base of said second thumb element; wherein said second elastic means is adapted to cause said second glove to be drawn toward a wrist of a wearer of said second glove; and anti ballistic fabric material disposed at least between at least a portion of said overlay strip and a portion of said second palm portion; wherein at least some of the first digit portions of said first glove are disposed within corresponding second digit portions of said second glove, and said first palm portion of said first glove is proximate to said second palm portion of said second glove.
- 6. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 further comprising said overlay strip extending across a portion of at least one digit portion of said second glove.
- 7. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 further comprising said second glove having a second back portion that is at least partially elastic.
- 8. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 further comprising:
at least one of said second digit portions terminating in a distal end opening such that said second digit portion is of a length that is adapted to cover only a part of said first digit portion; and at least one of said first digit portions extending beyond said open distal end of said second digit portion.
- 9. A rappeller's glove as claimed in claim 1 further comprising anti-ballistic fabric.
- 10. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 further comprising a plurality of said cut rings.
- 11. A composite glove as claimed in claim 10 further comprising at least three cut rings in said finger portion.
- 12. A pair of composite gloves as claimed in claim 5 having a plurality of cut rings associated with a plurality of digit portions, respectively.
- 13. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 wherein said cut ring comprises stitching transverse to said digit.
- 14. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 wherein said cut ring comprises the fibers of said textile fabric being fused to form said cut ring.
- 15. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 wherein at least one of said first digits comprises a non-textile area and a textile fabric area and wherein said cut ring is disposed in said textile fabric area.
- 16. A composite glove as claimed in claim 15 wherein said cut ring comprises a transverse strip of film form material adhered to said textile fabric.
- 17. A composite glove as claimed in claim 16 wherein said transverse strip comprises leather.
- 18. A composite glove as claimed in claim 16 wherein said transverse strip is transversely sewn to said first digit.
- 19. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 wherein said overlay strip is substantially permanently sewn to said second palm portion.
- 20. A composite glove as claimed in claim 5 wherein said overlay strip is adhesively adhered to said second palm portion.
