Claims
- 1. A multilayer composite comprising:
a first layer comprising a plasticized polyvinyl butyral and having a top surface and a bottom surface; a second layer adjacent said top surface of said first layer; and a third layer adjacent said bottom surface of said first layer; wherein at least one of said second and third layers comprises plasticized polyurethane having a thickness of less than 5 mils.
- 2. The composite of claim 1 wherein both of said second and third layers comprise polyurethane having a thickness of less than 5 mils.
- 3. The composite of claim 2 wherein said polyurethane is plasticized by migration of plasticizer from the first layer after the layers are combined.
- 4. The composite of claim 3 further comprising a first glass layer adjacent said second layer.
- 5. The composite of claim 4 further comprising a second glass layer adjacent said third layer.
- 6. A multilayer composite comprising:
a first layer formed from a plasticized polyvinyl butyral; and a second layer adjacent to said first layer comprising a plasticized polyurethane wherein plasticizer is added to the polyurethane prior to forming the composite.
- 7. The composite of claim 6 further comprising a third layer adjacent said first layer comprising a plasticized polyurethane.
- 8. The composite of claim 6 wherein plasticizer concentrations of said layers are at equilibrium.
- 9. The composite of claim 7 wherein plasticizer concentrations of said layers are at equilibrium.
- 10. The composite of claim 8 wherein the thickness of said second layer is less than 5 mils.
- 11. The composite of claim 9 wherein the thickness of said second layer is less than 5 mils.
- 12. The composite of claim 11 wherein the thickness of said third layer is less than 5 mils.
- 13. The composite of claim 9 further comprising a first glass layer adjacent said second layer.
- 14. The composite of claim 13 further comprising a second glass layer adjacent said third layer.
- 15. A multilayer composite comprising:
a first layer comprising polyvinyl butyral; and a second layer, having a thickness less than 5 mils, of a plasticized polyurethane, said second layer being attached to a first side of the first layer.
- 16. The composite of claim 15 further comprising a layer of polyethylene terephthalate attached to a second side of the first layer.
- 17. A process for forming a multilayer composite, said process comprising:
forming a first layer comprising a plasticized polyvinyl butyral and a second layer adjacent to said first layer comprising a plasticized polyurethane; and transferring plasticizer between layers during or after the forming step.
- 18. A process for forming a multilayer composite suitable for use in glass laminates, said process comprising:
coextruding a first layer comprising a plasticized polyvinyl butyral and a second layer adjacent to said first layer comprising polyurethane under conditions wherein plasticizer can migrate from said polyvinyl butyral to said polyurethane.
- 19. A process for forming a multilayer composite, said process comprising:
forming a first layer comprising a plasticized polyvinyl butyral and a second layer adjacent to said first layer comprising a plasticized polyurethane having a thickness less than 5 mils.
