Claims
- 1. An abrasive blasting media for the removal of coating or for the preparation of surfaces prior to coating or cleaning comprising:a blend including a thermosetting polymer and an additive selected from a nano-clay material and a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane material, wherein said additive has at least one dimension of a magnitude from about 1 nm to about 20 nm, and said blend is ground to a size of from 16 to 60 mesh.
- 2. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said at least one dimension of said additive is about 1.0 nm.
- 3. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said additive is a nano-clay material.
- 4. The abrasive media of claim 3 wherein said nano-clay material is a montmorillonite clay.
- 5. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said additive is a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane material.
- 6. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said additive has a second dimension of a magnitude from about 100 nm to about 1,000 nm.
- 7. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said additive has a platelet shape.
- 8. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said thermosetting polymer is selected from one or more of the group consisting of urea formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde, phenol formaldehyde, polyester, polyurethane, and epoxy.
- 9. The abrasive media of claim 1 wherein said thermosetting polymer is blended with a cellulosic material.
- 10. The abrasive material of claim 1 wherein said thermosetting polymer is blended with a urea material.
