Claims
- 1. A cargo tank comprising:a first side wall layer that defines an inner surface of the tank, the first side wall layer formed from a material having at least a chemical-resistance property; a second side wall layer formed from a material having at least a load-carrying property; a third side wall layer formed from a material having at least an energy-absorption property; and a fourth side wall layer that defines an outer surface of the tank, the fourth side wall layer formed from a material having at least a flame-resistance property.
- 2. The tank of claim 1, further including:a fifth side wall layer also formed from a material having at least a load-carrying property, the fifth side wall layer being spaced apart from the second side wall layer.
- 3. The tank of claim 2, further including:a sixth side wall layer also formed from a material having at least an energy-absorption property, the fifth side wall layer being spaced apart from the third side wall layer.
- 4. The tank of claim 1, wherein the material forming the first side wall layer has primarily a chemical-resistance property, the material forming the second side wall layer has primarily a load-carrying property, the material forming the third side wall layer has primarily an energy-absorption property, and the material forming the fourth side wall layer has primarily a fire-resistance property.
- 5. The tank of claim 4, further including:a fifth side wall layer also formed from a material having primarily a load-carrying property, the fifth side wall layer being spaced apart from the second side wall layer.
- 6. The tank of claim 5, further including:a sixth side wall layer also formed from a material having primarily an energy-absorption property, the sixth side wall layer being spaced apart from the third side wall layer.
- 7. The tank of claim 6, wherein the second side wall layer encompasses the first side wall layer, the third side wall layer encompasses the second layer, and the fifth side wall layer encompasses the third side wall layer and the sixth side wall layer encompasses the fifth side wall layer.
- 8. The tank of claim 4, further including:a fifth side wall layer also formed from a material having primarily an energy-absorption property, the fifth side wall layer being spaced apart from the third side wall layer.
- 9. The tank of claim 4, wherein the second side wall layer encompasses the first side wall layer.
- 10. The tank of claim 4, wherein the first side wall layer includes a resin material and a reinforcement material.
- 11. The tank of claim 4, wherein the first side wall layer includes a siloxirane resin material and a carbon fibers reinforcement material.
- 12. The tank of claim 4, wherein the first side wall layer includes a fluorinated thermoplastic material.
- 13. The tank of claim 4, wherein the first side wall layer includes a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film material.
- 14. The tank of claim 4, wherein the second side wall layer includes a resin material and a reinforcement material.
- 15. The tank of claim 4, wherein the second side wall layer includes a siloxirane resin material and a reinforcement material from the group consisting of fiberglass, aramid carbon fibers, graphite fibers, and organic fibers.
- 16. The tank of claim 4, wherein the third side wall layer includes at least one of a honeycomb-shaped material and a high-density foam material.
- 17. The tank of claim 4, wherein the third side wall layer includes a rigid phenolic foam material having a density of about 6.0 to about 9.0 pounds per square foot.
- 18. The tank of claim 4, wherein the fourth side wall layer includes a resin material and a reinforcement material.
- 19. The tank of claim 4, wherein the fourth side wall layer includes a phenolic resin material and a reinforcement material from the group consisting of fiberglass, aramid carbon fibers, graphite fibers, and organic fibers.
- 20. The tank of claim 4, further including a superstructure surrounding the tank to facilitate transporting the tank.
- 21. The tank of claim 4, further including at least one parameter sensing device embedded within a side wall of the tank, the side wall being formed from the first side wall layer, the second side wall layer, the third side wall layer and the fourth side wall layer.
- 22. The tank of claim 4, wherein:the first side wall layer includes a siloxirane resin material and a carbon fibers reinforcement material; the second side wall layer includes a siloxirane resin material and a reinforcement material from the group consisting of fiberglass, aramid carbon fibers, graphite fibers, and organic fibers; the third side wall layer includes at least one of a honeycomb-shaped material and a high-density foam material; and the fourth layer includes a phenolic resin material and a reinforcement material from the group consisting of fiberglass, aramid carbon fibers, graphite fibers, and organic fibers.
