Claims
- 1. A composite window label construction, comprising:
a first layer of sheet material having a window of material cut out of it, said window being surrounded by material of said first layer and the cut edges of said window being exposed; a second layer of sheet material covering said window on a back side of said first layer of material, said second layer of material having a marginal area outside of the area covering said window, said second layer having a front side which is adhered to said back side of said first layer at a marginal area on the back side of said first layer which is outside of said window; wherein a portion of the front side of said second layer is visible through said window of said first layer from a front side of said first layer.
- 2. A label construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first layer of material has pressure-sensitive adhesive on its back side.
- 3. The label construction of claim 2, wherein said second layer of material is adhered to said first layer of material by said pressure-sensitive adhesive provided on the back side of said first layer.
- 4. The improvement of claim 1, wherein said label is mounted on a release liner, with said adhered area of said second layer sandwiched between said first layer and said release liner, and adhesive on the back side of said first layer outward of said second layer adhering said first layer to said release liner.
- 5. A label construction as claimed in claim 4, wherein said release liner is a continuous strip which mounts a plurality of said labels.
- 6. A composite window label construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein said second layer of material has a front surface visible through said window which is reflective.
- 7. A method of making a composite window label construction, comprising the steps of:
providing a continuous web of base sheet material; cutting windows out of said continuous strip of base sheet material from an interior area of said base sheet material at spaced intervals along the length of said material; adhering a swatch of a second sheet material over said window from a back side of said web of base sheet material; and cutting said web of base layer material into individual labels.
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 7, further comprising the steps of providing a release backing web of continuous material on said back side of said base layer material adhered to said back side by a pressure-sensitive adhesive on said back side;
stripping said release material from said base sheet material after cutting out said windows; and reapplying either the same or a different strip of release material to said back side of said base label material after applying said swatches over said windows.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 8, wherein individual labels are die cut from said layer of base material after the step of applying said release material to said base material.
- 10. A method as in claim 7, wherein said swatches of said second sheet material are cut from the end of a continuous web of said second sheet material.
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 7, wherein said second layer of material has a front surface visible through said window which is reflective.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 7, wherein said first layer of material is larger in area than said second layer of material and has an attachment area which extends outwardly from said second layer of material.
