Claims
- 1. A composition suitable for application to skin for preventing and alleviating effects of exposure to excessive moisture, the composition comprising:
a) at least one percent by weight zinc oxide; b) a therapeutic amount of fungicide; c) a therapeutic amount of bactericide; d) at least five percent by weight of water-absorbing macromolecular material; and e) the components a), b), c), and d) dispersed in a water-immiscible vehicle adapted for skin application.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and a salt of carboxymethylcellulose.
- 3. A composition suitable for application to skin for preventing and alleviating effects of exposure to excessive moisture, the composition comprising:
a) at least one percent by weight zinc oxide; b) a therapeutic amount of fungicide c) a therapeutic amount of bactericide; d) at least five percent by weight of water-absorbing macromolecular material; e) at least one topical anesthetic agent; and f) the components a), b), c), d), and e) dispersed in a water-immiscible vehicle adapted for skin application.
- 4. The composition according to claim 3 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and a salt of carboxymethylcellulose.
- 5. A composition suitable for application to skin for preventing and alleviating effects of exposure to excessive moisture, the composition comprising:
a) between five and fifteen percent by weight zinc oxide cream; b) a therapeutic amount of fungicide; c) a therapeutic amount of bactericide; d) between five and twenty five percent by weight of water-absorbing macromolecular material; and e) the components a), b), c), and d) dispersed in a water-immiscible vehicle adapted for skin application.
- 6. The composition according to claim 5 further comprising at least one topical anesthetic agent.
- 7. The composition according to claim 6 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and a salt of carboxymethylcellulose.
- 8. The composition according to claim 5 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and a salt of carboxymethylcellulose.
- 9. The composition according to claim 5 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and sodium carboxymethylcellulose.
- 10. The composition according to claim 6 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and the vehicle is petrolatum and mineral oil.
- 11. A method of treating skin that is exposed to excessive moisture comprising the steps of:
i) providing a composition comprising:
f) between five and fifteen percent by weight zinc oxide cream; g) a therapeutic amount of fungicide; h) a therapeutic amount of bactericide; i) between five and twenty five percent by weight of water-absorbing macromolecular material; and j) the components a), b), c), and d) dispersed in a water-immiscible vehicle adapted for skin application; ii) cleaning and drying the skin; and iii) applying the composition to the affected skin.
- 12. The method according to claim 11 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and sodium carboxymethylcellulose.
- 13. The method according to claim 11 in which the water-absorbing macromolecular material comprises: gelatin; pectin; and sodium carboxymethylcellulose and the vehicle is petrolatum and mineral oil.
