Claims
- 1. A plant defoliant composition consisting essentially of as active ingredient
- (a) a compound of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sub.3 is methyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, dichlorophenyl, methylphenyl or nitrophenyl, and X is oxygen or sulfur, and
- (b) a compound selected from the group consisting of calcium chlorate, magnesium chlorate, calcium cyanamide, potassium iodide, magnesium chloride, potassium chlorate, and sodium chlorate, said compounds (a) and (b) being present in amounts having a ratio (a):(b) of between 500:5 to 5:500, and being present in an amount sufficient to effect defoliation in admixture with a suitable inert carrier therefor.
- 2. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said compounds (a) and (b) are present in amounts having a ratio of (a):(b) of between 10:1 to 1:100.
- 3. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said compound (a) is 1-phenyl-3-(1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-yl)-urea.
- 4. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said compound (a) is 1-phenyl-3-(1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-yl)-urea and said compound (b) is potassium chlorate.
- 5. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said compound (a) is 1-phenyl-3-(1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-yl)-urea and said compound (b) is sodium chlorate.
- 6. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said composition contains 10 to 80% by weight of active ingredient and 90-20% by weight of carrier.
- 7. A composition according to claim 6 wherein said composition contains up to 20% by weight of a surface active agent.
- 8. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said carrier is a liquid.
- 9. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said carrier is a solid.
- 10. The method of defoliating plants which comprises applying to said plants an effective defoliating amount of a composition according to claim 1.
- 11. The method of defoliating leaves from plants which comprises applying to the foliage of said plants defoliating effective amount of a composition according to claim 1 in the form of its solution in water.
- 12. The method of claim 11 which comprises applying said composition in an amount 10 to 1000 g of active ingredient per 2.5 acres.
