Claims
- 1. A composition for treating bacteria infecting burns and wounds of the skin, comprising:(a) an effective amount of at least one lytic enzyme produced by a bacteria infected with a bacteriophage specific for said bacteria, said lytic enzyme having the ability to digest a cell wall of said bacteria; and (b) a topical carrier for delivering said at least one lytic enzyme to the skin, wherein the mode of delivery of said composition is selected from the group consisting of a time-release patch, a bandage, and combinations thereof.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said carrier is selected from the group consisting of an ointment, a cream, an aqueous liquid, an alcohol based liquid, a water soluble gel, a lotion, a nonaqueous liquid base, a mineral oil base, a blend of mineral oil and petrolatum, lanolin, liposomes, protein carriers, a powdered cellulose carmel, and combinations thereof.
- 3. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said bacteria being treated is Pseudomonas.
- 4. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said bacteria being treated is Staphylococcus.
- 5. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said bacteria being treated are Sthaphylococcus and Pseudomonas.
